The first reference I have been able to trace about John Isitt is his marriage to Mary Dally at Loveston Pembs on 1st December 1798 when he was a blacksmith, living at Pwllcrochan, and a bachelor aged twenty years. He was my 4 X Great Grandfather.
Then the trail goes cold- did he come into Wales from another part of Britain or Europe. Most Isitts in Britain seem to be ranged all down the eastern counties of Scotland, and England, especially Yorkshire, and hardly any in Wales except two known families , one of which is mine. There is a very old tradition in the family that he was an immigrant from Eastern Europe- anyone know about this?
I know a great deal about him after this, although there is one small mystery - did he also marry another Mary - Mary Abraham- at some point? Also, where did he die - Merthyr Tydvil about April to June 1837?
Anyone who can open up this trail will earn my deepest gratitude.
