I see your very old message so you may not still be looking for responses. However, my family has (or had) relatives in Manchester, London, and also a number of relatives moved to South Africa. My grandfather, John Isherwood, married to Margaret (don't know her maiden name) left England in the early to mid 1920's moving first to Montreal, Canada, then to New York. The family came through Canada as it was quicker to get in under quotas into the US, as compared to coming from England. He had a brother (or cousin) named Jack who was killed in a train accident. Back in 1968, my parents and I visited relatives in Manchester (not sure if they were Isherwoods or from my grandmother's side) one of whom was a ham radio operator. If you do respond to this email, I will try to ascertain any additional information from my mom - as my dad died young in 1979.
