I am trying to identify the city/town/village where Daniel Isch (b.1850) lived in Europe and if he was of Jewish heritage. Various documents identify that Daniel Isch (b.1850) was from Alsace Lorraine, or Lorraine, Germany, but do not specify the city/town/village. He was married to Charlotte Bilias (b. 1856). They had 12 children, one of whom (Louis Jacob Isch) was born in the U.S. on July 26, 1892, Erie County, Buffalo, New York. Daniel (at 31 yrs) and Charlotte (at 25 yrs) Isch and three of their children (Daniel, 6 yrs.; Emma, 4 yrs.; Henri, infant) immigrated to the U.S. on August 3, 1881 on the Ship Labrador, departing from Le Havre, France and arriving in New York and resided in Buffalo, New York. By 1894, Daniel Isch apparently left Charlotte (his wife) and his children and was unemployed and homeless since on May 15, 1894 Daniel Isch was arrested for Vagrancy and sentenced to 30 days in the Erie County Prison, Erie, New York. I would appreciate any information regarding the birthplace (city, town, village) of Daniel Isch (b. 1850) or the name of the city/town/village in Alsace Lorraine where he resided just prior to immigating to the U.S. on August 3, 1881. Finally, our family for years has indicated that we have a Jewish heritage. I am trying to confirm this fact, so if anyone has information concerning whether or not Daniel Isch had a Jewish heritage, it would be much appreciated.
