Re: Esther Cohen and Mark Jacobs
I would like to add one more person whom I overlooked and am trying to find some info about also. One Woolf Isaacs who was Mark Isaacs father. Thank You!

A Wolf Isaacs who was known as Barney Bernato was a diamond magnate in South Africa in the late 1800's. Check the history files. He had lots to do with De Beers and the late Cecil John Rhodes.

Hi Julia Isaacs, I'm interested to know where you read that Woolf Isaacs was also known as Barney Barnato.I know I'm related to Barney Barnato (Isaacs). My Great-grandfather was Mark Isaacs born 1886 London, England??? His father was Woolf Isaacs, but that's as far as I can get. Woolf had 8 children, I think. I can't seem to get info on Woolf. I know that Woolf was already deceased in 1906. What line are you on? Do you know anything about a Janie Isaacs? That was Mark Isaacs sister.

I am afraid that I cannot help you with Janie. Read up on South African history at the time of the diamond rush. Cecil John Rhodes, Alfred Beit and Barney Bernato were involved in many claims. Barney bernato was an entrepreneur and must have left an estate worth millions or even billions. Good Luck

Re: Esther Cohen and Mark Jacobs
I have tried to email you directlly, but without success. I am also researching your line of Issacs for a freind of mine, Gay Ashley.
Gay is the granddaugther of Mark Isaacs, who changed his name to Ashley upon coming to America.
Mark's son, Wiliam Harry Ashley, married Doris Kirk and they had two girls: Joy and Gay,- both were born in Oakland, CA. .William died rather young and Doris remarried a Eberhardt.
JOy and Gay were raised in California . Gay lives in Carmel, California and she had one daughter, Shannon, who recently gave birth to Jessie.
Gay and I are old friends and recently began to discuss our family history, when she mentioned about the mystery about the ancestry of Mark Ashley. She did not know his real surname although, oddly, she had quessed that it might be Isaacs.... She was right.
I am a genealogy 'Nut" so I started looking around my usually haunts and came upon your post and another lady named Carole Deluna.
If you get this message, I am sure Gay would liek to hear form you.
Thank so much,
Tara

Hello, What a lovely surprise to hear from you . We live in Australia and my husband is the great grandson of Woolf and Priscilla . His grandfather was Woolf and Priscilla's oldest son Reuben who came to Australia in the 1890s . He became a bookmaker here in Melbourne . He never spoke about his back ground and it was only about 10 years ago that we realized that Reuben even had brothers and sisters !! Do you know anything more about Prisilla or Woolf . How did they die etc? I also know that they lived in the Exchage buildings Houndsditch and in the house right next door to the bulding in which the Houndsditch Murders happened in 1911. I actually bought a per back book on the subject which has a drawing and of the house pplans and also photographs of the buildins themselves.

Actually I would also love to hear of any info you might find on where the Lyons Family came from and anything at all you might have on them too . Regards Marianne.
