I have been researching Isaacks line in Texas for quite a few years. I found a bookcalled "The Isaacks Clan - In America and Texas" written by Mrs. J.D. Mullis, great-great-grandaughter of Mary Isaacks Parker and Matthew Parker. Mary Isaacks Parker was the daughter of Elijah Isaacks. In this book, it does state that "there is a tradition in her immediate family that some three centuries ago a family of Jews, one of whom was her ancestor, lived in Wales and married a Christian woman, on account of which his family disowned him. Whereupon he rnounced Judaism and added the "k" to his name to distinguish him from the Jews. Until a few years ago (written in 1935)when I began delving into the history of the family, I accepted this tradition as true, but from facts gleaned in the investiations, I am inclined to believe that the immigrant Samuel was either Scotch or Welsh." More on this in the book. However, in San Antonio, TX in the Institute of Texas Cultures, in the Jewish section is a plaque with the land grant issued by Stephen F. Austin.

I understand there is another book entitled, The Isaacks Family in America and Texas by Samuel Jackson Isaacks published in 1935. Have you ever heard of this book? Thanks.

I only have a xerox copy of the book, "The Isaacks Clan, In America and Texas." It was given to me by my Uncle James Isaacks. It looks as though it is a hand-typed manuscript. If you would like a copy, we may have to contact each other, in order for me to send you a copy. I am not interested in making any profit from this. Thank you.

After rereading the manuscript, "The Isaacks Clan, In America and Texas," it does seem that the first 20 pages were written by Samuel Jackson Isaacks. The date of the manuscript seems to be in June, 1935 as per the following: "Elisha and Alfred, of Humble and Cleveland, and John A., of Shandon, California, are at this time, June, 1935, the only living grandchildren of Elijah and Esther." This may be the same book or it may be a copy of the original manuscript. I am not sure.

Thanks so much for responding so quickly. Yes, if you have the time and resources, I would like to pay for copying the manuscript.
My address is 1824 Lundee Drive, Aiken, SC 29803. My home number is 803 648-8592.
Also, in your research efforts, have you come across any information about Capt. Godfrey Isaacks' military record. I know Elijah and Elisha (his older and younger brothers) were well-known in the N.C. militia, but I wonder where Capt. Godfrey Isaacks served. As you can guess, I am descended from Capt. Godfrey Isaacks the second son of Samuel Isaacks, Jr.
Thanks again. I hope to hear from you soon concerning the copy fee.

The Isaacks Clan in America and Texas
The book was originally written by Samuel Jackson Isaacks. There are various copies of it floating around that may or may not be valid. I received a copy from Samuel's grandson Gary D. Isaacks which I have posted on my website at http://www.geocities.com/~astromood/index.htmSteve
