Looking for info on Nancy Mahulda Isaacks, married to James Alva Lee in the mid 1800's in Texas. She had a brother John Lewis Isaacks and I believe her father was Andrew Jackson Isaacks. Any information on other siblings, ancestors etc. would be greatly appreciated. Please email to jsmoody@home.com
Thanks.

I am not certain if the information I have relates to your subject, but it looks promising. I have an established pedigree that lists Andrew Jackson Isaacks, born however in 1797. I have no information on his offspring, as the pedigree concentrates on others of his family. He DID, however have a sister named Mahulda, which might be someone your Nancy was named after. If her granddaddy's name was Elijah, I may have something for you.

Thanks, I have found a mountain of information on the Isaacks family since I posted that query. Nancy's father was Andrew J. Issaacks, not sure the J stands for Jackson though, I've seen conflicting data. He was born Dec. 3 1817 in Pike County MS. He indeed had a sister named Mahulda. Thanks for responding.

Steve:
Looking at your site, you seem to have come a long way since you posted your original query. I descend from the Isaac(k)s who remained behind in NC. If you go up to Samuel Isaacks Mary Wallace, they had a son named Elisha (as opposed to Elijah, his brother, who married Ester Donaho). This Elisha was my fourth great grandfather on my mother's side. My father's family came from Scotland and I have recently began studying Scots Gaelic. My maternal grandmother had always said the Isaacks came from Scotland (not Wales). Imagine my surprise recently when I began studying the language and discovered those funny words she used when I was a child turned out to be pure Gaelic! Anyway, I am a military officer and a physician, so I stay quite busy and unable to devote great amounts of time to research, but I try. Do let me know if you run across any more data from the 1700's back and I shall do the same. By the way, the current belief is that the Isaacks lived in South Uist, an island just west of the Isle of Skye off the western coast of Scotland. It is also where our Clan Chief lives, from whose home I just returned. It's a lovely (but cool and wet and windy) place. Take care.

Yes, I have also seen data that says Samuel Isaacks came from Scotland. In fact, I've seen a lot of information on him and it's about 50 50, half saying he came from Scotland and half saying he came from Wales. The first data I recieved on him said Wales so that's what I had in my database. I haven't seen any conclusive evidence for either case. Hopefully I can find something one way or the other eventially.

I'll be going back over to the Clan Centre on Skye in a few months. This line of Isaacks, actually originally Macisaacks, were adherents of Clan Donald. The story I am tracking down is that Samuel left Uist by ship about 1725. He apparently had a wife with him, sailed south and departed possibly from Wales for the transatlantic leg. That may be why we see references to Wales. This is still a work in progress but Jim McDonald, our National Genealogist tells me the likelihood is strong for this story. I'll see him in a few weeks at a Clan Gathering and see if he has any primary source information. Did you notice where my side of the line came from on the pedigree as referenced in my last note? By the way, my great grandfather, Jesse Melvin Isaacs told my grandmother much the same thing, so it has come from several directions. We'll continue the search. Do let me know if you run across anything new, or if you've copies to share of any documents. Thanx.

Rodney,

I have a Samuel Isaacks married to Mary Morgan who had a son Elisha, who had a son named Jesse, is that your line? Is my information incorrect? You said Mary Wallace.

Email me at jsmoody@home.com maybe we shouldn't clutter up this message board too much.

Thanks.

Did you know that Elisha had a twin Brother named Elijah?Ther are two other siblings Elizabeth and Mary Margret ("Polly"). Samuel Isaacks (II) married Mary Wallace in 1774 I think in VA.

Rodney, Samuel Isaacks indeed came from Wales. He came to America 1725. He settled in
Frederick County, VA. His spouses name is unknown. He had 1 son Elijah Isaacks ( I ). My oldest cousin followed the Issacks and went to Wales to verify it.

I would very much like to see any evidence of Samuel coming from Wales. I've been in contact with an Isaacks researcher that has been to Scotland and claims he has evidence that he came from Scotland via Wales. In fact, he has been in touch with the Isaacks clan in Scotland which I believe is where he got his information. I will see if I still have my correspondence with him and forward it to you.
