William married twice and died 4 September 1936 in Laurencekirk. He was a Draper. His death was notified by Joyce L Gordon. He married his second wife Maria Anderson Cook on 15 July 1919 in Aberdeen. He was the youngest of 5 known children.

Daniel was a member of the Bonnykelly, New Deer Ironside family and I can take the Ironside family back a few more generations.

I have a Daniel Ironside in my tree, Father, John Ironside baptized 6 Feb 1782, Mother, Joann Dow, born about 1780, married 18 July 1803, Daniel, born 11 April 1825, died 2 Jan 1906, marrried to Jannet Spence and Agnes Anderson. I only have two of their children listed, Elizabeth 1850-1872, and Jane 1855-28 Apr 1917. I do not have William listed. Would appreciate getting details.

I am trying to track a Mrs. Jas. Cruikshank. When my grandmother Jane Ironside, nee Reid, visited Canada in 1925 she listed a daughter, a Mrs. Jas. Cruikshank, living in Strichen, on the ship's manifest. This Mrs. Cruikshank was not a true daughter but maybe a relative of some sort.

With your connections to the Cruikshanks, maybe you can help solve this mystery.

Regards

Robert Ironside

PLease provide me with the info you have on William Ironside.

I have three children of Daniel Ironside and Janet
Spence Elizabeth, Jane, and William and four with his second wife Agnes Anderson, Mary, Catherines, Maggie and Jessie

I have William, the third child, married to Elspet Bruce Cruikshank in 1884 with three children Jessie Spence, Elizabeth Bruce, and Archibald.

Does this agree with your records?

I trace the Ironside tree back to James, born 1685, married to Sarah Crawford.

I don't have too much on him. He was born 6 September 1856 at New Deer and died 4 September 1936. In 1881 he was at 114 High St, Laurencekirk, unmarried and a Draper & Grocer (Master). He married Elspet Bruce Cruickshank 25 July 1884 at New Deer with the 3 children you list. He remrried Maria Anderson Cook at Aberdeen on 15 July 1919. His death was notified by Joyce L Gordon. I was given the death info by a third party and have not verified it at all. The names of his wives were not very legible but could be read as Elizabeth and Maria.
Daniel and Janet Spence had 4 children there was an Ann in December 1852. There may have been another between 1851 and 1854 as listed on a gravestone, but this could be Ann. I agree with the children of Daniel and Agnes.
One difference is that a number of us have traced this branch of Ironside back as follows
Daniel Ironside - Janet Spence/Agnes Anderson
John Ironside - Joan Dow
James Ironside - Janet Geddes
John Ironside - Agnes Gabriel
John Ironside - Isobel Esslemont

It is a long time since we looked at the last couple and I have to say that at the moment I have reservations about them. It is possible that John Ironside and Isobel Sangster, who were at Bonnykelly (the long term area of this branch) in 1696, are a better fit.
