Thomas Iredell of Cumberland, England abt 1700
I have a hand-written history of Thomas Iredell: Thomas Iredell emigrated from the county of Cumberland, England, about the year 1700. His certificate was received at a monthly meeting of Friends held in Philadelphia, 8th month 29, 1708. It was issued by the “monthly meeting held at Paidsaybragg in Cumberland”, England and was dated 6th month 27, 1700.
I) Thomas Iredell married Rebecca Williams at Friends meeting, Philadelphia, 9th day of 3rd month, 1705, of their children I have able to gather the following : II) Mary Iredell married Thomas Good 13-2-1730 (day-month-year) Rebecca Iredell married Issac Cleaver 23-2-1787 Abraham Iredell married Sarah Coffin 1740 Hannah Iredell married Benjamin Fell 29-2-1745 Robert Iredell married Hannah Lukens 22-2-1745 Rachel Iredell married Abraham Lukens 25(23?)-1-1745 Sarah Iredell married Joseph Wilson 1752
These are not to be presumed as given in the order of their birth. Excepting my grandfather I have not the date of birth of any of them. All were married at Friends’ meeting at Horsham, except Abraham, who was married at Haddonfield, N.J. and Sarah who married at Everham, N.J. Early in the last century Thomas Iredell purchased of Samuel Carpenter two-hundred acress of land, on which, in 1720, he erected a substantial two story stone dwelling, in which, in 1848, Nathan Hatt died, having, I think, lived there his life time. There could have been no public road there at the time it was built, for on March 25 (23?), 1722, it was ordered that Rob’t Flitcher, Richard Carver, Thomas Iredell, John Barnes, and Ellis Davis, or any four of them, “Do make out a convenient highway, from the Governor’s House to the meeting house and thence to Round meadow run (now Willow Grove).”
I) Robert Iredell, born 4th, 1st mo. 1721, died 1799. married 29th, 2nd mo. 1745, Hannah Lukens, born 21st of 8th mo. 1727, died 1812. Children of Robert and Hannh Iredell (date of marriage)
II) Rebecca Iredell born 4th 2nd 1746, married Daniel Thomas 31-3-1766 Charles Iredell born 16-11-1747, married Phebe Cadwalader 27-12-1770 (?) Robert Iredell born 17-4-1749, married Susanna Lukens

Re: Thomas Iredell of Cumberland, England abt 1700
I would be glad to exchange data on my Iredell line. My Iredells come from my wife's side of the family. Many of the handwritten notes and data that I have for them come from my In-Laws. I have done some research on Ancestry.com and found additional information in their "Gene-Pool" database. I currently work out of town and come home for the weekends. So, I may not respond to your messages immediately, since I only get to read them on the weekends. I will send to you, separately, some information from my Family TreeMaker database. And if you can confirm that we have a connection, I can send you a CD with some of my research data, a GEDCOM file, and other goodies. - pat

Re: Thomas Iredell of Cumberland, England abt 1700
With some of the information I have, Thomas Iredell who married Rebecca Williams match up perfactly. Their one son Robert Iredell who married Hannah Lukens are the ones I am directly related to. Robert and Hannah's one son Charles b. 16 Nov 1747 m. 27 Dec 1770 Phebe Cadwalader (b. 19 Aug 1747 d. 14 May 1823.
The information I got out of the Comly Family History book that my mother has. It sounds as if your wife and I are related. I will get all the information that my mother and I have and send it to you. My address is Ruth L. Poole, 7833 Walker Rd., LeRoy, NY 14482
Hope to hear from you soon. Good Luck with your work.

Re: Thomas Iredell of Cumberland, England abt 1700
Patrick,
I'm studying Iredales in Cumberland and was interested to read about Thomas.
There was a Thomas Iredale bap 16Feb1673/4 at Workington in Cumberland. His father was Martin Iredale who was buried at Workington 18Nov1675 . I wonder if they are the same chap. I have no further record of this Thomas so it is possible he emigrated.
The earliest records I know about for my branch of the family were at Workington when John Iredale married Sarah Wilson 26Oct1688. Although I have no confirmation of it I guess Sarah Wilson was daughter of the Quaker Christopher Wilson from Greysouthen.
There was also an Ann Iredale who married Daniel Bell at Workington 19Nov1678.
It seems likely that Thomas, Ann and my John were related, but I don't know how.
Do you have any further information about the early life of your Thomas?
Incidentally, in case you don't know, Paidsaybragg is really Pardshaw Crag where there was an early Quaker meeting place.

Re: Thomas Iredell of Cumberland, England abt 1700
I am a descendant of Thomas Iredell through his son Robert & Hannah Luken's son Johnathan. I am trying to determine the relationship to James Iredell (Supreme Court Justice appointed by Washington), if any.
Thanks!

Robert Iredell & Hannah Luken's children
Hi, Ruth! I have our family history showing that Robert & Hannah had a son Johnathan (middle name not known) from which I am descended. However, I don't have 'backup' for this other than a family tree that's been passed down from my grandmother and great aunt. You mention that Charles was their only son. Are you sure?
Thanks!

Re: Robert Iredell & Hannah Luken's children
Sorry I haven't gotten around to doing this. What was the year of your Jonathan Iredell? The Charles Iredell that was Robert Iredell and Hannah Lucken's son was born 16 Nov. 1747 and his death unknown. He married a Phebe Cadwalader. Also noticed in the info that I had he had 2 brothers a Jonathan and a Robert and a sister Rebecca. Don't know if this helps any or not.

Re: Thomas Iredell of Cumberland, England abt 1700
Hi Edgar I'm trying to locate parents of a Thomas Iredale who married in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1750. I believe he was born in Cumberland around 1722. His grandson was called Martin but have not located the source of this relatively 'rare' christian name in the family history. So I was very interested in your message regarding a Thomas Iredell born in Workington 1673/4 the son of a Martin Iredell. Do you have any other information about these Workington Iredales/Iredells -which I have not come across before?
Regards Chris Watson.
