Isham Irby b. 1750 SC?

On the 1790 Federal Census for South Carolina there is an Isham Irby in Pendleton district.

He is there again in 1800 and I believe in 1810 he is in Warren County, KY.

Various sources note him as being born ~1750 in South Carolina.

He apparently had 3 sons John, Charles, and William.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on how he is connected to the rest of the Irby's in SC at the time.

All Joseph Lafayette's sons were around Newberry, SC.

Could he be a son of Joshua Irby Jr or Joshua Irby III?

If anyone has any info I would be appreciative.

Regards,
Jason Irby

All I have on him is speculation also. I do not think he is the son of Joshua Jr., although have not found proof that he is not. I descend through Joseph, and also find it hard to accept that Joseph is a son of Joshua Jr. Why would Joshua Jr. have proven children, and then some who are not? Maybe he moved to another area. If a child of Joshua Jr. born 2 years after Joseph was proven (and Joshua Jr. did not move during this time), and I believe (only from memory) that one daughter was proven one year prior to Joseph's birth, then, why should Joseph be believed as his son? I know and have read the Rev. War Pension of John, Joseph's nephew, who stated he went to SC to visit his Uncle Joseph....but why wasn't Joseph proven as a child of Joshua Jr.? Right now I'm looking for another family as possible ancestors of my Joseph. People back then could have called someone an uncle when they were actually an older cousin or a great uncle.

I have heard speculation that Joseph and Isham might be brothers...or that Joseph may have been married twice. I'd really like to be able to search farther back than I have been able to thus far. If you'd like to talk further contact my email lands8327@yahoo.com I do get to VA, NC, and SC when I can to research.

There are a couple of Irby researchers who have been at this longer than me. I respect their research very much. This is just a sticking point for me. I also wonder of the relationship of Isham to Joseph.

There isa record in Halifax County, Virginia in the mid 1700s that describes Isham as living along Terrible Creek. The same stream that Joseph and William Irby were living on at the time.
