I've just started researching my gene line. Im not sure about a lot of things. I started this because every one asked me what nationality Ipock was and I could not answer them(still cant). My father is Sr. His father was Andrew H. Ipock who was married to Letha m. Ipock. I was born in Morehead city, NC. Most of my family lives there now. I have 7 uncles thata live in or around morehead. This is just some info. for you...
Thanks

Hey, who are you? Uncle Andrew and Aunt Letha Mae were my great aunt/uncle. Andrew's sister was Dera Noe, my grandmother. I remember them so well in that house by Willis Trailer Park - haven't seen squat of you all in years. My mother was Dera Mae Lewis, who died last December. I can remember uncle Andrew so well -
To answer your question on the nationality, well, Ipock is Cherokee descent mixed with some German. All of the early known Ipocks came from the western part of NC and drifted into Bridgeton, New Bern, Morehead. Some went to Wilmington, Greenville and there are lots of Ipocks living in Ohio, TN, VA, and KY. I wrote the family history on daddy's side a few years ago called Kin To The County. It's on file at the Carteret County Historical Society, Morhead City. I am currently working on the Ipock family line as well. I have been in contact with the Bureau of Indian affairs and many others trying to prove the lineage. There is strong evidence to prove the Cherokee heritage. I just wish I had a picture of Uncle Andrew, Uncle Harley, Aunt Nita and others. Janie Mae Ipock, I am told, may have such a picture. I have pictures of Grandmama (Dera Ipock Noe) when she was very young and she was very tall, had long black hair and the bone structure of that of the indians. Uncle Andrew did too. Please, let me hear from you as soon as possible. You probably know too, Marie Newsome, Sue Taylor, Alena Johnson - they're your aunts who live in Crab Point (mama's sisters).
Aunt Nita's daughter is a resident at the nursing home behind Carteret General and will tell you point blank that the Ipocks were Cherokee - I need to go see her and put her stories on tape - I saw her last year before mama died. I haven't been back to let her know about her death, but plan to go soon.

Sanford, you are the second cousin I have found on this message board today - I am from Morhead too - My grandmother was an Ipock - Dera Ipock Noe who married Henry Noe of Beaufort. Her brothers were Andrew, Harley and a sister Nita and others. Are you kin to Andrew, Harley, Nita? I know Janie Mae, Lennis and remember Aunt Letha Mae and Uncle Andrew well - they used to live in a house next to Willis Trailer Park - went there as a child many times. I am working on the family history too - I finished my dad's family and am now working on the Ipocks.

The surname Ipock is Cherokee mixed with very early German descent. I am researching this heavily right now with the Bureau of Indian affairs and many other organizations and websites. The early records of Ipock families in NC show that they primarily settled along the eastern part of the state; Morehead City, New Bern, Bridgeton, Greenville and some in Wilmington. If you are familiar with the story of the cherokee indians at the cherokee reservation in NC, you will remember the Trail of Tears story; forcing many cherokees to the midwestern parts of the US; some chose not to go and subsequently settled in the eastern part of NC. There are many Ipocks today who lived and still live in OK, TN, KY, VA, NC; a few of their desecendants have drifted into other parts of the nation as well.

Most Ipock records can be found at the Register of Deeds offices in Morhead City, New Bern, Kinston, Greenville, Pamlico County and Wilmington. Some records, however, have been totally destroyed due to either storms, fire, or were never kept. I will be happy to help you find a lot of information if you want me to. My email address is smanning8@juno.com.

Ask your parents if they know Dera Mae Lewis. She was my mother - they;ll know her and Marie Newsome, Sue Taylor and Alena Johnson - (my mother's sisters)Aunt Sue and Aunt Marie live in Crab Point.

let me hear from you soon. Sharon

Hello Lewis - you have every right to be a serious Ipock searcher - there aren't very many of them around - nor ever were - they are a unique bunch - primarily Cherokee with German descent - We'll find out exactly how you're kin to me - need your parents, grandparents, etc. and link to the Ipocks -
There are some Ipocks in TN, KY, VA, OK but mostly in eastern NC; Morehead City, Greenville, New Bern, Bridgeton, Kinston, Wilmington, Ernul.

Sandy, who posted the message, is my 3rd cousin that I met online yesterday - his father was the son of my great-uncle Andrew Ipock who lived in morehead City - There's only one line of Ipocks so far as I can tell - many of the early Ipocks had 8 or 9 yunguns each - so my guess is, U iz one of them! my grandmother was an Ipock; family came from Bridgeton NC. Good to hear from ya - where do you live? We live in NC - Stokesdale to be exact - sits between High Point and Winston Salem - don't worry - we'll find that connection!

he was married their twice once to Elizabeth Savage 1841 and to Sarah Busy 1838. from their he shows up in Jackson Co. Tn 1860 cen. next Warren co. Ky. 1870 cen.I haven't been able to find him in 1850, sure wish i could.Think you can help on who his father was. ENOCH IPOCK - REPLY TO LEWIS DENTON

I THINK WE CAN FIND THEM ALL - IT'S REAL FUNNY I WAS JUST ON A WEBSITE SHOWING THE CRAVEN COUNTY CEMETERIES AND 2 OTHER SITES TONIGHT AND RAN ACROSS, I THINK, A ENOCH IPOCK OR SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR. YOU'VE BEEN ON THE HUNT AS LONG AS I HAVE. WHAT IS REAL INTERESTING AND WE HAVE GOOD GROUNDS TO BELIEVE SO, IS THAT THE IPOCKS WERE OF GERMAN DESCENT. THEY AND THE SWISS FLED GERMANY, SWITZERLAND AND LEFT FOR ENGLAND AT ST. CATHERINES ON MAY 6, 1709. FROM THERE THERE WERE ABOUT 300 SWISS AND 600 OR SO GERMANS. ONLY HALF OF THE GERMANS SURVIVED THE MOVE BY SHIP. THEY PURPOSEFULLY LEFT FOR NEW BERN, WHICH IS IN CRAVEN COUNTY. THIS IS WHERE THE IPOCKS ORIGINATED FROM ONCE THEY CAME ONTO US SOIL. THIS IS WHERE THE INDIAN HERITAGE OF THE IPOCKS COME INTO BEING. THERE WAS A TUSCARORA INDIAN WAR IN 1712 AND LAST TO 1715. MANY WERE KILLED DURING THIS WAR; HOWEVER, THERE IS STRONG REASON TO BELIEVE ( AND I BELIEVE ITS TRUE BYH THE WAY MY FAMILY LOOKS) THAT SOME ENDED UP LIVING AMONG AND MARRYING THE TUSCARORA INDIANS; WHICH IS A MAIN BRANCH OF THE CHEROKEE. THE INDIANS WERE COASTAL INDIANS. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL BY HISTORICAL FACTS, RECORDS, ETC. ALL KNOWN IPOCKS ORIGINATED IN CRAVEN COUNTY. THERE WERE ALSO SEVERAL DIFFERENT SPELLINGS OF THIS NAME. THIS WAS VERY TYPICAL. THE ORIGINAL SPELLING GOES BACK TO A VALLENTINE IBACH AND A JACOB EIBACH LISTED AS A PETITIONER IN 1716 TO COME TO THE USA. ANOTHER SPELLING IS EUEACH - HOW IT GOT TO BE IPOCK - I HAVE NOT THE FIRST CLUE -
WE ARE ALL TRUE DESCENDANTS OF THE EARLY IPOCKS FOUND IN CRAVEN COUNTY AND WE ARE SOMEHOW RELATED - FOR NOW, I WILL CONSIDER YOU A 3RD OR 4TH COUSIN - OKAY? WILL GET BACK WITH YOU ON ENOCH.
