Sanford, you are the second cousin I have found on this message board today - I am from Morhead too - My grandmother was an Ipock - Dera Ipock Noe who married Henry Noe of Beaufort. Her brothers were Andrew, Harley and a sister Nita and others. Are you kin to Andrew, Harley, Nita? I know Janie Mae, Lennis and remember Aunt Letha Mae and Uncle Andrew well - they used to live in a house next to Willis Trailer Park - went there as a child many times. I am working on the family history too - I finished my dad's family and am now working on the Ipocks.
The surname Ipock is Cherokee mixed with very early German descent. I am researching this heavily right now with the Bureau of Indian affairs and many other organizations and websites. The early records of Ipock families in NC show that they primarily settled along the eastern part of the state; Morehead City, New Bern, Bridgeton, Greenville and some in Wilmington. If you are familiar with the story of the cherokee indians at the cherokee reservation in NC, you will remember the Trail of Tears story; forcing many cherokees to the midwestern parts of the US; some chose not to go and subsequently settled in the eastern part of NC. There are many Ipocks today who lived and still live in OK, TN, KY, VA, NC; a few of their desecendants have drifted into other parts of the nation as well.
Most Ipock records can be found at the Register of Deeds offices in Morhead City, New Bern, Kinston, Greenville, Pamlico County and Wilmington. Some records, however, have been totally destroyed due to either storms, fire, or were never kept. I will be happy to help you find a lot of information if you want me to. My email address is

Ask your parents if they know Dera Mae Lewis. She was my mother - they;ll know her and Marie Newsome, Sue Taylor and Alena Johnson - (my mother's sisters)Aunt Sue and Aunt Marie live in Crab Point.
let me hear from you soon. Sharon
