Hi, I have been researching Innes ancestors from Scotland. If anyone has any information regarding any of the below listed names, it would be very much appreciated.
My Great Grandfather is John "Jock" Innes, b 19 June 1904 in Glasgow, Scotland to Grace Nisbett (b 12 August 1883 in Renton, Dumbartonshire) and Angus Innes (b 30 July 1881 in Bonhill, Dumbartonshire). Angus and Grace married 26 January 1906. John had four brothers -
James "Jim" Innes b 9 September 1906
Angus Innes - b about 1908
Andrew Innes - b about 1912
Frank Innes - b about 1918
John immigrated to Australia in 1923 on his own, his brother James came out later that year and his parents and other brothers came out in 1928.
John married someone after arriving in Australia and had four children, names also unknown. He divorced his first wife and married my great grandmother in Melbourne, Australia in 1942, after they had already had five children together.
John's dad Angus is the son of a James Innes born about 1853 and Mary Miller Wright b about 1853.
James and Mary were married on 30 March 1877 in Alva, Stirlingshire. They had six children -
Nellie Innes b about 1877
Jeanie Innes b about 1878
Angus Innes b 30 July 1881
James Innes b about 1884
Mary Innes b about 1886
Thomas Innes b about 1888
James is the son of Angus Innes and Helen Wilson.
Angus and Helen dates of birth unknown, I believe had about nine children -
James Innes b about 1853
Margaret Innes b 22 June 1859
Mary Innes b 7 February 1861
Duncan Innes b 26 January 1863
Helen Innes b about 1865
Catherine Innes b 24 November 1866
Elizabeth Innes b 16 October 1867
Janet Innes b 16 October 1867 d 26 October 1867
Jessie Mellis Innes b 14 November 1870
(Catherine, Elizabeth and Jessie all died young from Scarlet Fever)
From information on census records Angus spent most of his life in or near Couligarten in Aberfoyle, but was possibly born in Renfrew.
I believe Angus's parents could be a James and Catherine Innes.
Cheers
Sarah Innes
