I have been looking on the Dorset For You website at the catalogue of historical archives, and found a summons for John Inkpen (Mariner) issued in 1764 for non-payment of a bill of exchange owed in 1763 to Thomas Tizard and his partner William White of HOrton, a Newfoundland planter. Tizard was from Okeford Fitzpaine in Dorset. Incidentally, I discovered yesterday that my gt x 10 grandmother was a Tizzard. JOhn was supposed to pay £4 for his passage from Newfoundland to Poole but obviously didn't or couldn't. He was from Sturminster Newton.
This is interesting as it seems that William White may have been looking for people who wanted to move to Newfoundland, so may be linked to our Inkpens who emigrated. My link is via John Inkpen Junior baptized in 1735 in Sturminster Newton, Dorset.
