Hi all,
I have a strange family legend that my Nelson ancestors were once Ings. The story goes that somewhere along the line, a young Ing deserted the Navy (not sure of which country), made his way back to Michigan and changed his name from Ing to Nelson.
It is bizarre, I know (some of my family members would tell you that he walked across the Andes to get back to the States!), but it has become a frustrating dead end in my family history research, and I am determined to solve the mystery. If any of you Ings out there have any information, please let me know. My last traceable ancestor was Albert Nelson (b. 1891) from Michigan.
Thanks!
