Hi Laura and Frederick,

This is in reply to both your messages. I am sending this to the our INABNIT-L@rootsweb.com e-mail list also, as all messages posted to GenConnect Boards are also automatically posted to our INABNIT surname e-mail list. Hopefully, your messages and this reply may be of help to others on our list who may be doing research also.

Hans emigrated from Switzerland to South Carolina in 1735, with his wife Maria and sons. Unfortunately, we find no record of Hans ever arriving in South Carolina. He may have died at sea enroute. Maria and the sons did arrive in South Carolina, where they settled in the Orangeburgh District and later spread to other parts of South Carolina and then to other states.

Hildebrand emigrated from Switzerland also, with his sister, Catherina and her husband Hans Mueller. Emigration tax was paid March 09, 1743/44. He arrived in Pennsylvania, where he settled in Lancaster County. We do know that Hildebrand was the son of Peter InAebnit and Anna Brawand, and he married Anna Schlegel. They are known to have had 3 sons - Joseph (married first to Elizabeth Hawbecker and second to Barbary/Barbara Parkerson, Jacob married Mary Parkerson and John married Hannah unknown.

Although we do believe that Hans and Hildebrand were probably related somehow in Switzerland, we have (to date) found no records to show this, and so their relationship (or lack of relationship) is still unknown to us.

Laura, the Susannah Inabnit, whom you mention, is daughter of Jacob Inabnit and Mary Parkerson, and we show her as being born Nov. 10, 1791 in Virginia. Her father Jacob was a son of Hildebrand and Anna. Susannah married to Lindley Couch in Pulaski Co., KY on October 06, 1812. She died
November 26, 1866 in Dade Co., Missouri. We do have a good bit of information on Susannah, her siblings and her children, and always happy to share. Hopefully you may be able to help us to fill in some of the blank spaces on the more current generations and update our records to the present time.

Several of us have been working on our family history since the 1960s and 1970s, with some years off for raising our families, etc. We have accumulated a good bit of information, especially about the early generations, and are still working and learning.

In recent years, with people posting information on the Internet, we have found it to be both a blessing and a problem! If the information is correct, then it is very helpful - but when incorrect, it presents a tremendous amount of problems. It is almost impossible to get erroneous Internet information corrected. We have found some people to be very happy to make corrections, when they are given the correct information. But not everyone is cooperative, or interested in accuracy! Thus, incorrect information continues to circulate.

One thing that we are very particular about in our research is to document our findings! We feel that this is very important in a genealogy and always try to list our sources! We want our history to be as accurate as possible and to be able to show where we have obtained the information!

We do have an enormous amount of information on Hildebrand and his descendants, and I have accumulated at least as much information on Hans and his wife Maria, and their descendants. There are also a few others of our surname who have emigrated to the U.S. from Switzerland in more recent years, and we have some information on them also. (Of course, we still have a lot of blank spaces, but that is why we are still searching! >GRIN<)

Hopefully, you have seen our web site by now. If not, please do visit
http://members.tripod.com/~ajobebrown/Atnip.html
which includes mainly the descendants of Hildebrand and Anna. This is a combined effort of several of us cousins working together to make something to honor our ancestors and to be of help to others researching our family history! Ann Brown is our Web mistress and has done such a wonderful job on it, keeping it updated, etc.! There is a lot of information there, but we do not post information about living individuals for privacy reasons.

We are always happy to hear from you, and to compare notes, and share & exchange information! When we help each other, we all learn more! Looking forward to hearing from you again, and being of help to each other.
