Alvin Thomas Wylds

Alvin Thomas Wylds, 81, husband of Mrs. Ilene Torkelson Wylds of Warrenton, entered into rest Tuesday, March 19 at Candler Hospital in Savannah. Mr. Wylds served his country during WWII throughout the Middle and Far East with the U. S. Army. It was while serving in Great Falls, MT that he met and married his wife of 59 years, Ilene. He was employed with the Lenwood V. A. Hospital, Augusta for 27-1/2 years during which time he received numerous awards and citations for his excellence in job performance. Upon retirement in 1975 he relocated from Augusta to the Leah community to pursue his hobbies of fishing and carpentry. Then again relocated to the Phinzy community in the mid 1990s. Some of his fondest memories while living in Phinzy were of the daily morning gatherings at Jimmys Garage with many of his friends. In Aug. 2000, he again relocated to Savannah to reside with one of his daughters and son-in-law until the time of his death. While residing in Savannah, he again gained many new friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sherry Wylds Stouffer. Survivors: wife, Ilene Torkelson Wylds of Warrenton; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Richard Lane of Lakeland, FL, Sandra and Joel MCGLOHON of Savannah and Debra and Tony King of Spartanburg, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Landrum G. and Ruby Wylds, Sr. of Augusta and Lewis H. and Wilhemina Wylds of Appling; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie W. and Athey Jenkins of Augusta; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Funeral was held Saturday, March 23 at Starling Funeral Home in Harlem. Burial: Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home Hodgson Memorial Chapel
