Carol- do you know how your grandfather knew the Imbers? I read earlier on this board that your relative Mollie Eigen Bartell may have been related to Naftali Herz Imber and I was wondering if you could go into that.

@foxpsych- I think I recognized some of the names you wrote. Are you related to Karen Imber Fisher who is descended from David, Morris/Moses, and Duvid Imber (grandfather thru great-great grandfather). Also, are you related to Steve Imber in Kansas? I think he had a grandfather named Harry who was a grand nephew of Naftali Herz Imber.

My grandparents, Morris and Jenny Imber, had a child that died before my father, David, was born. His name was Herold. We never could figure out who he was named after. I wonder if the relation could be the Harry Imber you are all talking about.Morris came from Austria-Hungry area, but the manafest documents we found state that he was originally from Russia. I do not know how reliable these imigration documents are.

LOL I hope so. Your Grandfather and my father, Melvin were first cousins. Your great grandmother Freida and my grandmother, Bessie were sisters. I decend from Bessie and Louis Marcus, whose son, Melvin Marcus was my father. I am 1 of 4 of his children. I know Marilyn had me on the family tree if you have a copy of that.

I'm not sure if I'm on Marilyn's family tree, but I don't have a copy of it so I'll see if I can get one. My grandparents are Daniel and Belle Dicker, and my parents are Stephen and Nilda Dicker. They, and myself also, may have met you at some point but didn't even realize it. My grandparents have a family tree of the Imbers and I'm pretty sure that your name shows up.

Sharon- I was talking with my grandparents and they said that the Presant family circle was at a property in New Jersey owned by Morris Jontow how we believe is a relative. The property was many acres and had stables with horses and a donkey. They said you were there and they remembered seeing you.
Carol- Do you know anything about the family circle, and are you familiar with the surname Jantow? We think it is a branch of the family in your part of the family tree.

My stepfather was Herman Timber (1916-2005). His brothers were Isaac (1907-2005) and Harold (1910-1990).
Their parents were Sophie/Sprintza Weber (1887-1987) and Nathan/Nathan Imber (1884-1918).
Herman said something about his gf being a cousin on Naftali Herz Imber.
Nathan was from Zloczow.
Does anything sound familiar?

Karen, it was all part of the Russian Empire at one time or another. It's confusing as a town was in one country when a person was born, in another country later on, and in yet another country by the time they immigrated. And, often the town's name changed , too!

Are you referring to the painting done by Jonathan Imber? Jon is the son of my stepfather's brother Harold. I believe it's one of three paintings Jon did of Naftali.

Naftali Herz Imber, as well as my Imber ancestors, was from Zloczow, so it definitely sounds like our families may be related. Do you have an idea of how Nathan Imber was related to Naftali?

You also mentioned a painting of Naftali Herz that a relative of yours did, so I think that this may have been the painting my father saw in the Jewish Museum. Is there a way to see the painting, or the other paintings of Naftali, online? Thanks.
