Does anyone have info on his parents? I know that their names are supposed to be Christian and Catharine, but I can't substantiate any dates. If you would share any info, I would be very thankful.

Lynda: I would dearly love to know more about the father of Emanuel and those who I take to be his brothers, including Jacob, Henry, Daniel, and Christian. I know that some expect that this Christian will turn out to be the eldest son of Ulrich who arrived in 1763, and inheritor of the lion's share of the moderate estate bequeathed in 1765. For a number of reasons more fully developed at http://www.enthuz.com/friends/family I think this Christian is more likely the son of Jacob Eiman <1725> who arrived in 1749 on the St. Andrews. Little is know of this Jacob, though he does appear on tax lists fairly regularly after 1770 for lower division of Upper Paxtang. A warrent was secured by this Jacob for land on Clark's Creek (May Apple Bottom) in partnership with a Jacob Racif (Reiff?) with evidence of improvements, and payments being made on the land since the 1770s.

In 1775, three patiots volunteered for militia and served with James Murray in a company which was laden with Irish lads and few if any other Germans... Jacob Eyeman (1), Jacob Eyeman (2), and Christian Eyeman. This may be father and two sons, both of whom ultimately resided in Hardy. This Jacob (2) married Barbara Jones in 1787 before migrating to Hardy. A third Eyman, Peter, who resided in Hardy after 1790 served in the same company of militia from Paxtang after 1781. It's just a guess that he was a younger brother to the Jacob and Christian mentioned above. A John Iman paid in order NOT to serve in the militia in the early 1780s.. again from the Paxtang area.

So.. can't say for sure, but I think Emanuel's father hailed from Upper Paxtang, that he was a patriot, and the he was likely born about 1750 or so. I'm assuming this chap was the Christian Eyman, citizen of Bethel Township of Lancaster in 1770 who sold to Robert Crane his interest in land in Cumberland (West of the Susquehanna River in the Paxtang area). A note a no little interst buried in that deed suggests that the hard to locate land "adjoined that of his father Eaeman acquired from the proprietor". (No such warrants or claims have yet been discovered.)

Care and appreciation.. Steve Iman -- sciman@csupomona.edu
