have been having great trouble trying to find the birht/baptism of my Great-great-grandmother Ann Ilott. She married in 1840 at St James Paddington and her father's name is recorded as William. Just recently I discovered some Aylott marriages at St James in the same time-period with father named William. So I began to wonder if Aylott and Ilott were variants of the same surname, or if Aylott was a variant of Aylett? How is Aylett pronounced and is it the same surname as Aylott, Ilett, or Ilott? What about Aylett and Haylett? I have no idea how any of these names is pronounced. Or which syllable takes the stress. Does Aylett rhyme with "eyelet:, with "baylet", with "hey, lett", or with "why let"? Thanks. Thom Fowler
