Afternoon,
Just to take this a slightly different direction.
I just found a co-worker in Chicago with the last name Iles. she married into the name and says her husbands family is from Sugartown, LA.
I asked my mom (maiden name Iles) about this and she said the following: Grandpa Joe Iles was born on the Toppinish Indian Res (Washinton State). I understood that the Iles family had immigrated from Nova Scotia. When they reached Kansas, some continued on west and another group went south towards New Orleans Actually when my parents were visiting in New Orleans, Dad looked up a Robert Iles in the city. We went to visit him and turned out Robert's Dad was an uncle of Grandpa Joe's Dad. Robert was married and had a couple of children, as I remember (no names.
Obviously, ya'll are talking about the Iles that headed south to New Orleans but some ended out West. My Grandpa Joe Iles settled in Washington State (little town called Dayton) and had three girls whith names that are familliar in earlier posts about the LA Iles group - Carol, Nancy and Elizabeth.
Love the name, unfortunately it died out here in Washington as my grandpa only had the three girls....it's now the middle name for my nephew. If anybody has geneology info they would wnat to share I'm sure my mom would appreciate it and maybe even be able to fill in some threads.
