In 1787 Mark ILER was granted land in Natchez, Ms from the Spainish government. He had 2 sons, Jonas and Abram. I'd like to hear from anyone doing research on the ILERS in Mississippi or Louisiana.

Re: Mark ILER of Natchez, MS
Hi! I am researching HOOTSELLs. Apparently Mark Iler married JEMINA HOOTSELL-sons ABRAM(ABRAHAM). When Mark died he left land to son Abram and her 4 HOOTSELL kids from a marriage to Mr. HOOTSELL. Abram petitioned the adams county court for the inheritance. My Hootsell/Hammett/Castelberry/ Owen/Watkins/ Adams family tried to sue again for it in 3/7/1954. We just found a letter stating the lawsuit. My John Hootsell m. Elizabeth Dix were parents of SALLIE HOOTSELL and SARAH ANNA HOOTSELL-they relate to WILLIAM SHAPLEY OWENS- BRACKETT OWEN. Some how JeMINA connects to them. How do you fit in? I really want to talk with you!!!! Email me please.

Re: Mark ILER of Natchez, MS
The perplexing records of Mark Isler /Iler/ Eiler /
Mark had at least 3 sons, all by different wives. by Margaret = Jonas by Mrs. Jemimia ( ) Hutsell = Abraham (divorced?) by Mrs. Anne Maria ( )Miller = Jacob
His first wife was Margaret who joined him in deeds in Va. (Markus Ilor and Margaret his wife County of Dunmore 1772) - lawsuit over this land proves he was the same fellow who migrated to Natchez,
McBee - Natchez Court Records Natchez Court Records, Book B. pg 248: 19 Mar 1789 - Having received notice from Jonas Hailer of the death of his father Marcus Hailer, commandant repaired to his plantation 1 mile from the Fort to take inventory of the deceased Marcus Hailer who died intestate whereupon Jonas Hailer was interrograted and he made declaration that his father had no children but the deponent and that he left no wife and no one had any claim on the estate as could be testified by William Barland, Joseph Fort and James Stoddard.
A later lawsuit proves that Jonas conived with others to keep his brothers from their inheritance. Abraham Iller, by wittness proved that he was born between 1780-1785 (Apparently the years Marcus was married to Jemima) - Their marriage was performed at the military post of Arkansas. Wit: Christopher Miller*, Susanna (Miller) Smith*, J. Bradley, Margaret Williams, Margaret Bolton/Milburn.
* brother and sister, 2 of the children of Anne Maria
About 1786, Mark married Mrs. Anne Maria ( ) Miller - and they had a son Jacob Eiler b Mar 1786 and died 28 Sep 1869 in Natchez. Jacob left a very extensive estate. His home was on Homochitta Street next to the present Dunleith estate.
Anne Maria - died 27 Oct 1806 in Natchez, her obit appeared in the Natchez Newspaper. "Died in this city on Monday evening last, in the 59th year of her age, Mrs. Anne M. Eiler"
Marcus, Anne Maria, Jacob and his wife are all buried in the Routh Cemetery in Natchez.
I am very confused by Jemima records - she seems to have married:
(1) Mr. Hutsell, (2) Mark Eilor, Iler , Iller, Isler (1780-1785) - divorced? (3rd) - Abraham Thickston before Oct 8, 1788 (4th) - James Lewis before 16 Jul 1796 - Jemima Lewis wife of James Lewis deed of gift to her children - William Hutsell, Joseph Hutsell, John Hutcell, Catherine Hutsell, and Abraham Hyler ~~~~~ Abraham Iler and Jacob Iler agreed between Abraham Iler one of the sons of Mark Iler dec'd and Jacob Iler the other of the sons of the said Mark dec'd that an equal division of the Estate of Jonas Iler one other of the sons of the said Mark (which Jonas is believed to be dec'd) shall be made between the sons Abraham and Jacob which said Estate is now in the hands of the undersigned Job Routh or part thereof. it is agreed that the said Abraham shall be at liberty to take out letters of administration of the Estate of the said Jonas. Out of the above sum of $1,833 & 3/4 cents we conceive that the sum of eight hundred and three dollar may be collected which is all the Personal Estate of the said Mark Iler that has been shown to us.
In witness whereof we have set our hand and seal this 7 day of September 1805. Abraham Iler Jacob Iler (still under age)* Job Routh
*I hereby pledge myself as security that the above named Jacob Iler shall comply with the above written agreement. Witness my hand and seal this 7 day of Sept. 1805. Christopher Miller.
Any help on these confusing records would be great.
Anne

Re: Mark ILER of Natchez, MS
My grandfather was Alonzo Griffin Hootsell, who was a direct descendant of John Hootsell, the name I gave my second son, John hootsell Leonard. I think John hootsell's middle initial was T. What does that stand for and how are you related to John Hootsell.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Bahin Hootsell Leonard

Re: Mark ILER of Natchez, MS
Hello Ann, I am researching Hootsell genealogy for my daughter and my two grandsons, all named Hootselle. The family now is centered in St. Louis, MO and is descended from John Thomas Hootsell, Sr., William Dix, Joseph Newton and Thomas Green Hootsell. Do you think I am right that Joseph Newton Hootsell is the son of William Dix Hootsell and Marcella H. Leakin? Census data indicates that John Thomas Hootsell, Sr. was from Pennsylvania. Have you had any luck tracing the line back to Pennsylvania? Hope you are having fun. Conrad
