Surnames: Ealand
As I mentioned in my posting, Ealand, and the variants listed, most likely derive from the ancient Eland family of Yorkshire, England. There is no evidence it was ever a family name in Germany or Holland. In favor of this assumption is the fact that there are a number of Ealand families in England today whereas the 'white pages' listings for Germany show none. The only way, of course, to prove your own family origins is to trace your ancestors back generation by generation to their homeland.
