Does anyone know much about the Dorothy A. Ijams mentioned in this thread.. born abt 1910 in Baltimore, MD ?? I am looking to find a Dorothy Ijams who married my long deceased Uncle Charles Eugene Johnson, Jr. (b 16 March 1908). They lived first in Baltimore & Baltimore Co., MD, eventually moved to Kensington (a Montgomery Co., MD nearby suburb to Washington, DC. Charles died 22 Nov 1976. His wife Dorothy lived into the mid 1980's, but I am unsure when she died. This Dorothy Ijams was nicknamed 'Dot'. They had two sons: Edward 'Ned' and (Charles) Eugene 'Gene'. Wondering if there is any chance she could be your Dorothy A. Ijams ?? or were there many such Dorothy's born and living in Baltimore area of that aproximate age.. ?? She used to claim her Ijams family could be tracked back to the 1500's or before. Any info appreciated.

I am pretty sure they are the same Dorothy. My mother has a cousin named Ned that I am pretty sure is Dorothy's son. I will verify with my mom and let you know. I have Ijams lineage back not quite to the 1500's but the early 1600's. It gets a bit questionable, in my opinion, at the immigration of William Ijams (b. 1640).

I have been trying to find my lost first cousins Ned (especially him) and Gene for over 25 years.. Since I lived in Baltimore then and they near DC I lost touch as a child. After visiting their mom in Kensington a few years after I moved to Arlington, VA... Ned dropped in on my sister for a visit.. but she lost the address and telephone number he left her.. I jus tchecked the SS Death Index.. and Dorothy was born Feb 10, 1910.. Maryland number, last know address in Tacoma Park which is directly down the road (New Hampshure Ave) from Kensington as you head for Washington, DC.. the death date looks right too...
I have been doing Genealogy for over 50 years and have a family database of over 86,500 family and allied family members.. but thsi line was always a total dead end.
Found stuff on the Family Trees that track the Ijams back.. so I see what you mean about how far. There are allegedly links there (spousal) if true.. to other well known famileis in my database back in Mideaval tiems.. eg. the DeNeville / Neville's and the De Beauchamp /Beauchamp's for starters.. possibly the De Cliffords / Cliffords ?? much more dubious in this online ancestry..perhaps...

Hello Joe, You indicated that you have been researching for over 50 years! Is most of your research on the Ijams family?
I also have been researching since about 1970 and have a very large data base. The arrival of William b. abt 1640 is still a mystery of exactly how and when he arrived. The Dorothy A. Ijams b. 10 Feb 1910 is the d/o Plummer Austin Ijams b. 20 Sep 1875 and Louise Barton Whitehouse b. 17 Nov 1879. Would love to correspond with you about the Ijams.

Hi... I'ts me again. You can reach me off-web at email address 'dunipace@comcast.net' The House of Dunipace fell (went bankrupt) in the early 1600's in Scotland and nothing remains today of it and its Knight-Banerets. Like with the Ijams, we can NOT find the actual transport of our immigrant Livingston family member from that part of the Scotish family to Gloucester Co.,VA by 1650.... only the Headright claim for his transport in. I'd certainly be agreeable to sharing as much as we might be able to help each other. Unfortunately (I guess I did not phrase it well enough yesterday) the Ijams family is not (yet) a part of my database other than Dorothy. I have the U.S. part of the Johnson/Huyghe-Hayghe/Hawkins/Chalk ancestors of Dorothy's husband Charles Eugene Johnson, Jr. the Vernetson/McManus line (some of it) of Charles's Mother's sister Mary Blanche Murphy's husband; and then the vast majority is on lines on my father's side of my family (my Mother was the Johnson - sister to Charles). Incidentally Charles's parents (after their marriage) lived in Relay, Baltimore Co., MD (not far from Elkridge, Howard Co., MD - where some show an Ijams wife in the direct ancestry) and Mary Blanch and husband lived accross the B&O RR tracks in St. Dennis (even closer to Elkridge). I happen to have many European lines due to many of my lines tracking back to England and Scotland, and these tie into all these well known European lines like the Beauchamps, Plantagenets, etc..I never knew when Dorothy was born, and shortly after my last visit her sons apparently moved her out of her house there (the neighborhood was changing badly she told me) and I never knew where they took her to live so I was unsure where she really died, being out of touch with her sons. Hence I was not sure which Dorothy in the SS Death Index was her or even if she WAS one of those in it. This held me back from trying to track the Ijams line backward. It is very interesting to see that it followed some of the same migration patterns in MD as some of my other liens.. eg.. the Hawkins (ancestors of the Johnsons)..
Feel free to contact me at the email address above in this reply. Best Wishes...8-)

Well on looking through my family database (on my home computer last night) I see that I actually DO already have a few Ijams (other than Dorothy) in it already (besides the new ones I am now entering having found Dorothy's apparent link thanks to you). I already had William Sr. William Jr. and wife (and her parents and grandparents), Plumber Sr. and Jr. and the direct line from him down to George Edwin Sr & Jr & kids, and another child of Plummer Jr. -- all due to links into other famileis already in my database. Don't think there are any others already in it than these..
