I am the son of Walter M. Ihle, who was born in Paulina Iowa on Jan 1, 1900. He was the youngest of several children, with his parents being recent imigrants from Germany.

Do you know your grandfathers name and the place they came from. My Grandfather was Johann and from Baden-Baden. He came over around 1870. Have heard he may have had a brother but can't confirm yet.

In case your wondering, I know of at least four other Bill Ihle.

Hallo William ( = Wilhelm like your father?)

Why are you sure, that your grandfather came from BADEN-BADEN? Perhaps he came "only" from the Great Dutchy of Baden?

I am researching my familiy in the village of D-76684 ODENHEIM, former Baden, now Baden-Wuerttemberg,
about 45 km from Heidelberg and belonging to the district of Karlsruhe.

In the familybook and online search archieves I found:

Johann Anton IHLE, carpenter *24.05.1807 +15.01.1866
He married 17.11.1834 Maria Katherina BAUER *01.08.1814

They had 8 children between 1836 and 1853. Two died. Under
235380 Johann Anton Ihle (widow) got the permission to leave the country Baden for 1 grown up and two children - Emigrationyear 1871 and under 235503 Katharina IHLE is allowed to emigrate in 1871 (three persons).

So I think, that Maria Katherina Ihle born Bauer took 2(youngest?) children to emigrate.

This was Maria Anna *08.09.1853
Wilhelm *26.07.1847

or perhaps Johann Georg *08.02.1846

I did not look for the ship and shiplists.

Can you help to find the american relations?

My Grandmother's maiden name was Ihle. Her name was Golda and came from Iowa. Her father also immigrated from Germany, Charles Ihle.

One of dads sisters was Golda...ah, we must be related. I am not clear on the fathers name, Charles or was it Gustaf? Anna was the mother and there was another brother Charles and Merton. I met Merton, quite old at the time, living in Mt. View, Calif.

I just talked with my mother.
She would like to know your name and exactually your relationship to Golda.
We went to see Mert in Mt. View also, I believe it was in the '80s because my son was very young at the time.
I (we) would enjoy hearing from you.
My Mother has been trying to locate her mother's family through out the years.

I talked with my Mother, Gwendolyn Maxine (she goes by Maxine) Lindsey.... her mother was Golda Ihle, as you said your father's sister. My Mother lives in Colorado and is 87 years old.
Her brothers are both dead, Herchsel and Kenneth.
I believe we went to visit Walter on one of our trips up to Northern California back in the early '80's.

Yes, Maxine. I do remember Mom and Dad talking about it.
They had a lovely visit.

I live in Medford, Oregon where I am the Executive Vice President of Coporate Relations for Harry & David. We have lived here for about 12 years. I pass by Chico when we are driving to Sacramento and visit their graves several times a year.
