Surnames: Ihász, Ehasz, Kernya
I am searching for information about my G'Gfather's parents and siblings. Jozsef Ihász was born 15 Oct 1868 in Hungary [to Jozsef Ihász and Rose Kernya]and died 23 Jan 1949 in Ashtabula County, Ohio, USA. He emigrated to Barton, Belmont County, Ohio in the 1890's. I found he had a brother, Stephen, who was born 06 Dec 1858 in Hungary and who died 10 Oct 1933 in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio.
It's likely there were other children born to this family [there's a ten year difference in their birthyears]. Likely names for male siblings would be Gabor, Mihaly [Michael] and Andrus [Andrew]. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I sure hope you're still active on Ancestry! I just found your post.
My great grandfather was Jozef Icha; but that was not the original last name. My maiden name is Iha; so it's been changed even further since Jozef came over. His children's American names are: Frank, Jozef Jr., Michael, James, Barbara, Anna, Veronika, and Louis. Louis is my great grandfather.
Jozef and most of his family lived in the Chicago area and moved to Cleveland later. My great grandfather immigrated directly to the Cleveland area; with wife and family. My great aunt, Veronica, came over before anyone else and moved around with the people she was nanny to.
My tree is public, so you can click the link next to my little icon thingy, in this post and check it out. I hope we are related! I've been working on this tree for about three years now. All our family documents/letters/pictures are in Hungarian and my 'older' cousins are no longer around to translate.

Since you have letters that are in Magyar. you might want to ask on Hungary's board
for a translation.

Iha, Veronika Komouna 18 1883 1901 [location is Homonna - Humenne, Slovakia] which you know. I went back on your posting history thought that I would refresh my memory but see that you deleted most of your posts.
Iha, Rosa 34 1872 1906
Iha, Anna 3 1903 1906
Iha, Floria 1 1905 1906 [Ilona ]
Iha, Julia 4 1902 1906

Did you end up sending a letter to Ladislav ICHA in Humenne, Slovak Republic?
I think the spelling of ICHA vs IHA has something to do with Slovak vs Magyar grammar.

ICHOVA [OVA a female ending] also in Humenne's phone book.

Hello,
Yes, I wrote him last year. I had a translator write a copy in his language for me. (She was very helpful.) And I sent both copies together. I haven't heard from him. I also wrote any Icha I could find. No responses yet.
Since working on my cousin's lineage (over a year) I hadn't really returned to mine. Someone at the Hungarian Society in Cleveland suggested that I send photos along with my next letters..just to show that I am really interested in finding my family and not 'asking' for anything. I know I still have family in Hungary because my grandfather told me that only his grandfather's family came over. All of his grandfather's family (any brothers, sisters, etc.) remained in Hungary or other parts of that region. And my Great grand aunt went back and forth visiting relatives.
When I send the next batch of letters I am hoping that I receive a letter back saying, "Yes. We have a copy of that same picture..or of that picture..."
Sincerely
Theresa (Iha) Hurlburt

Hello,
Also on the picture I attacked to a different reply was "city adm." Doesn't say what type of city administrator or anything that would give me the slightest clue where to look.
sincerely,

Hello yet again!
This sounds familiar with talking with my grand aunts as a child: Ihacz, Gabor Vaszar 15 1887 1902
Also this looks familiar..but I'll have to relocate the document I think I say it on: Yhasz, Jozsef Vaszar 42 1859 1901
Thank you for all the links! Now I can get back to my own family!
Sincerely,
Theresa (Iha) Hurlburt

Theresa,
May I ask was the letter in Slovak or Magyar being that Humenne is in Slovak Republic. Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Have you also included your e-mail address? I'm a bit surprised that you have not received a reply but anything could have happened. Maybe he did not receive your letter.
Have you got thru Humenne's church records and an 1869 census of the location.
You can contact me off the Ancestry board, the envelope symbol on top of the screen. I can not contact you since I'm not a paid Ancestry subscriber.

Hi again
ICHA / IHA or IHASZ ! Just looking at them, I would say 2 different family names.

In Slovakia: IHASZ : http://telefonny.zoznam.sk/ihasz/slovensko/

Gabor IHACZ is going to Barton, Ohio.
Jozsef is going to Phoenieville, PA

these 2 are most likely IHASZ:
Zhasz, Krisrtina Harsagy, Hungary 21 1893 1914
Zhasz, Maria Harsagy, Hungary 1 1913 1914
