Dorothy Igras
Dorothy Igras resided in Boston's Back Bay. She passed away on January 8, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late Antoni Igras. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Spratt and Ethel Spratt nee Clarke;
and a grandson, James Igras. Dorothy was the loving mother of Jan Igras and his wife Estrella of Erie, Pa.; and Vivien Igras and her husband Derf McKeeton of Back Bay. She was the devoted grandmother of Thomas Igras, Monica Igras, Michael McKeeton and Alex McKeeton and loving great-grand mother of Gabriel, Taylor, Michael, Benjamin and Lucinda. Joyce Crishock of Erie, a longtime family friend and caregiver, also survives. Born in London, England, Dorothy was 14 at the outbreak of World War II. She was conscripted to make tents for the British army. Dorothy survived the Battle of Britain despite her home being bombed twice during the course of the war. She and her immediate family immigrated to the United States in 1958. Dorothy worked for the Glenwood Pet Hospital and Harborcreek Youth Services while living in Erie. Her hobbies included reading and writing poetry, cooking, knitting, walking her pet bulldog Bronwyn in her Back Baby neighborhood, and spending quality time with family and friends. Visiting hours were held on Sunday evening, January 11 at the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home of Brookline, Mass. A funeral mass was held on Monday, January 12 at St. Cecilia Church at 10:00 a.m. on Belvedere Street, Boston. Private internment will be at the Otter Creek Cemetery in Otter Creek, Maine. Donations may be made to the Partners Hospice, Suite 200, 281 Winter Street, Waltham, MA 02451. Local arrangements were handled by the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 East 12th Street.
