Where was Sadie born.

I am looking to trace my fathers family who came from Lvov in what was then Poland now the Ukraine. My paternal Grandfather was Majer Igel who I believe died in approximately 1942 in the Lodj getto.

My maternal grandmother, Rose Igel Kurtz, I believe was George's brother. She is listed as Rachel on the Ellis Island ship's manifest. The ship's name was The Canada. She came over from Stryy Poland with her 8 siblings and settled in Brooklyn, NY. Please contact me at mjshug@sdcoe.k12.ca.us with any info you have. I'm sure we are related. My mother, Helen Kurtz Sachs lives near me in the San Diego area. She has spoken of her uncle George whom they called Shayer (sp?). My mother only knew of 7 siblings, not 8. I believe there was a one year and we would like to know what became of him.

My grandfather, Dr. Oswald Igel (b.1898, Lvov) survived the Holocaust in Lvov, and came to NY in 1950 with my mother and grandmother. He died in 1985. Wondering if there is any connection. He had a sister was killed, whose name I believe was Erna.

Hi Larry.
Sorry, I don't believe there is any relation. I know of no relatives with those names.
Good luck!
Merry

I have a friend, Eunice (Igel) Simon, who is a daughter of George. I am doing some research on her family and am glad to see someone else is. George's father is named "Nachman" by the family. George's name on the Ellis Island site appears to be Schaze, which sounds like a nickname to me. George's mother is named Jennie (Drucker) by the family, with her name at Ellis being Scheindel. My research around Stryj does not show any Igels, but lots of Druckers. My friend said her parents visited relatives in Israel once, but we can't come up with any names. Can you?
