Hi Judith

I'm writing on behalf of a friend who is researching her Ifill ancestors. She doesn't have an ancestry account so I offered to reply to your message for her. Her name is Erika and her email address is EARPAC@aol.com. She would appreciate it if you could please get in touch with her asap. Thanks.

This is what she said:

I grew up in Philadelphia (although now living in California)...and that IFILL is in my background...but that I have been having trouble finding out which IFILL as the information I have on Louise...my great-grandmother lists only that her father was born in Barbados and doesn't list his name.

I have found that Samuel and John IFILL (brothers, cousins, father and son?) were both listed in the 1861 City Directory (John was listed as living in Camden NJ...) Louise was born in 1856 in NJ....However, John disappears and is listed as dead on Horace's death certificate (age 4) in 1864. On this death certificate, Horace's mother is Letitia...

I am beginning to believe that Letitia and John were my great-great grandparents. But I have no proof at this time. (The evidence is getting stronger though).

I am also interested in the other IFILL families of 1835-1880 in Philadelphia, as I believe they are all related.

I have more information on some of these families (just from finding bits of info as I search the web on Barbados and Philadelphia). I have not yet begun searching any farther back...ie Barbados 1800-1835...or England...but I'm sure that will become more imperative after I determine for sure the families in Philadelphia (before 1880).

I am doing research on the Ifills and have a great deal of information on the Ifill family in Philadelphia. We are descendants of LeRoy (Roy) Ifill a son of James S. I would be happy to share information.

I am doing research on this family-descended from James S.Ifill through his son Leroy(Roy) Ifill. I am especially interested in the grandfather and great grandfather of James S, both named Samuel and Catherine Pierrepont. Also the Barbados connection. Please contact me. I am interested in sharing information. Thank you

Hello,

I just found this site and know this message is very old, so you may not receive my message. My mother was an Ifill from Philadelphia and her father was James Sherry Ifill. I believe he was born in 1859. He had a first wife with 4 children, and when the first wife died he remarried and had my mother and her sister who were much younger (my mother was born in 1913). I would be interested in learning more about the Philadelphia Ifills, I know there is a connection to Barbados as well, since my mother mentioned a relative who was a governor (?) there.

Thanks for any information!

Judith,

We are related! My mother was a half-sister to Roy. When Roy's mother died, James Sherry Ifill married my grandmother and had 2 more children. Would love to get in contact with you.

Elin

Hi Judy,

I have always heard that all the Ifills in the Caribbean came from Barbados. Evidently, from your information, we may have connections in PA. I find this very interesting.

I'd be happy exchange information with you.

Roy
