AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - - John “Jack” Ifft, 74, passed away late Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Woodlands at AustinWoods.

John was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of the late Lester and Louise Davis Ifft, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of Hubbard High School and served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division.

Jack was employed at Republic Rubber/Aeroquip from 1963 until they closed in 1978.
He subsequently worked as a journeyman machinist for Easco Aluminum until he retired in February of 1999. While employed at Easco. He was also President of United Steel Workers Union local No. 4564 from 1982 to 1986.

John was also Auxiliary Police Officer for Austintown Township from 1972 to 1982.

He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Anita “Dolly” Piccolo Ifft, whom he married Sept. 7, 1963; his daughter, Jodi (Tim) Bednar of Canfield, Ohio; three grandchildren, Layni, Jake, and Layken; sisters, Sally and Lu Ann of Florida, and Cindy of Georgia; brothers, Larry and Jerry of Ohio, David and Dennis of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death a brother, Tim.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Church in Austintown, Ohio.

Christian & Caroline Ift, Illinois

Is any one else on this board researching Christian Ift who settled in Adams County, Illinois around 1860-1870? I believe that Christian and Caroline are my G-G-Grandparents.

Christian seems to have been of some means (a landowner at least) so I was thinking there was a pretty chance that there was a will and/or probate records in existence.

Hi, Jan! I'm John Patterson using Kathy Stallings' account. I am working on the Patterson geneology. Edith Marie Patterson b 11-28-1912, d 8-4-2005 married John Thomas Ifft b 1-1-1912 d 3-29-2002 on 6-2-36. I know they came from Beaver County, PA, but they had a winter home down here in Sarasota, FL, and I believe they are both buried at Memorial Gardens, also at Sarasota. They had 3 boys. Do you have info on these Iffts?

Well, it looks like we're kin! My grandmother was Ruth E Pifer married to William R. Vogler. My Dad is their son Clayton William Vogler. You don't see much on the internet about him, because he's still alive and living with us! He'll be 92 in September. Of course I never knew Twila Mae, but Aunt Millie (and Uncle Jack Partridge, who was my Mom's brother) lived up behind Grandma and Grandpa Vogler, a half a block away from us in Ellwood City! Nice to meet you! I would love to collaborate with you. Don't have too much on the Pifers, and I'll share any info I have with you. I'm sorry it took me so long to answer, but I had begun to give up hope ever hearing from anyone on this thread, but thankfully you reached out! Hope to hear from you soon.

JOHNSTOWN, PA. – Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers, Ohio for Elsie Marie Ifft Beal, 89, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio who passed away at the Laurelwood Care Center Tuesday afternoon, January 4, 2010.

Elsie was born on March 31, 1921, in Summitville, Pa., a daughter of Herman and Mary Whiteman Ifft.

She came to the Youngstown, Ohio area as a young lady and was a waitress at numerous establishments. She was a former member of the Methodist Church in Johnstown.

Elsie married George Beal in 1960, and he passed away in 1985.

She leaves one sister, Betty Jane DeWitt of Armaugh, Pa.; she also leaves several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one son, Richard G. Richards; one daughter, Barbara J. Hornyak; and two brothers, William Ifft and infant Robert Ifft.

HUBBARD, OHIO – There will be services Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Timothy Lester Ifft, 63, who passed away Saturday, April 24, surrounded by his family.

Timothy was born March 26, 1947, in Youngstown, OHIO a son of Lester and Martha Louise Davis Ifft.

He was a 1965 graduate of Hubbard High School and played football for the Hubbard Eagles.

He was a manager at various retail locations in the area and also in California, where he resided for 17 years. He loved to golf and was in a golf league at both Deer Creek and Knoll Run.

He is survived by his daughters, Doreen Ifft Cheza of Masury, Ohio and Stacey (Mark) Duvall of Hermitage; seven grandchildren, Heather (Brian) Cline, James Kelly, Melissa Kelly, Tara Duvall, Mark Duvall, Kala Cheza and Harley Hrifko; and a great-grandson, Anthony.

He also leaves his siblings, John L. Ifft, Sally L. Hagerman, David L. Ifft, Larry L. Ifft, Jerry L. Ifft, Susan Luanne Angiolieri, Dennis L. Ifft and Cindy L. Burnett.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be calling hours on Tuesday, April 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.

Recently we ran across a website asking for help in finding out more info on the Iffts in Il. It was posted by a Kay Starr Schaney but also said she was not actively researching at the time. I tried to contact her through the comments section but it was returned to me. I do have some info on the George Ifft who married a Hari. I live in the south-east area of Washington (the Tri-Cities), about 4 hours from Seattle. We have blue sky here too =) ... not the wet, overcast weather. Our house is a few blocks from the Columbia River, in Richland.

My mom did mention that her aunt Roberta did a lot of research and maybe her daughter might have some information. My aunt Roberta is actually still alive; her sister, Verna is the one that passed away. My mom knows some information about her uncle Jim and aunt Adalaide and my grandfater (James "Ed" Benton) keeps in contact with Jim's children....this is all according to my mother.

I did live in Bellingham for awhile. I went to Western Washington University for 4 years. I grew up in Colorado though and missed the blue skys, so I moved back once I graduated. Where in Washington do you live? I still visit Seattle a lot to visit my college friends.

Joan's sister Roberta Wohlgemuth was involved, it seems, in genealogy. I found some of her work on the internet. Unfortunately, by the time I had found that info. she had died.
I am interested in anything your mother knows about Anna Hepting's 1st marriage (to George Casteel). They had two children, James Edwin Casteel and Adalaide Frances Casteel McKenney. I have only little information about them.
The research I have done of the MOON's has been in hopes of finding information about George and Anna.
Do you live in Bellingham, WA? In my search for the descendants of Anna and Robert Moon, I did some looking on findanyone.com and came up with your name in Bellingham, WA. We moved from L.A., CA to Washington 8 years ago and love it! I'm 57. Your mother's generation?

My grandmother is Joan Elizabeth Moon Benton and she is still alive. She married James Edward Benton and had my mother and 3 other girls. I will check with my mother and grandmother and see what info they have about Anna Hepting. I am sure my grandmother has a lot of info, since it was her mother. According to research I've done recently, your great grandmother was Anna Harriet HEPTING.
Anna's 1st husband was George Harrison CASTEEL, my grandmother's brother.
Anna's 2nd husband was Robert Wilson MOON. They had Roberta Pearl MOON (1McGRUDER (2WOHLGEMUTH, Verna Marie MOON CARTER, Joan Elizabeth MOON BENTON and Donna Lee MOON RYLAND.
Anna's 3rd husband was Samuel Prescott ROBINS.

Once I had found out that much, I decided to keep digging until I had found someone who knew something about their ancestors, especially any news of Anna (HEPTING) & George CASTEEL.

If your mother has any knowledge of Anna Harriet HEPTING, or if she knows of other family members that she or I could ask about this, please let me know. Also, if you see anything that is incorrect in my research, please correct me!

My paternal grandmother's name was Mary Eft. She was born in Midway Pennsylvania in the late 1870's. I do have a paper that gives the name of her parents (my great grand parents) and the names of each of their children. If you wish, I will send a copy to you.

I am an Eft from the John Eft line in Steubenville, Ohio. My father, his father, and his father all grew up in Steubenville on Efts Lane. My grandmother knows our family heritage better than the rest of us; I will contact her and try to contact you again. Please email me if you have information regarding our family! Thank you so much for responding to my earlier post of last year. Shortly after that posting, I located two distant cousins that had further information on the Ifft and Schnauffer families. One of them, Carol Holeswki, received information from you on the Ifft family. If I am correct, you were living in New York at the time.

Sarah (Sadie) Schnauffer was my great-grandmother. Her son Paul Victor Boyer, b. 1907, d. 1943, was my grandfather. Carol sent to me a copy of a picture of the Schnauffer sisters, Flossie (Schott), Isabelle Elizabeth (Rosenbauer), Eva (Rice), Ida (Kniess), Sadie (Boyer), Leafie Mineiva (Funkhouser), Catherine Schnauffer (not in the picture).

Sadie (Schnauffer) Boyer and husband Charles Clarence Boyer who died March 20, 1958, lived within 8 miles of my home when I was a child. I grew up in Connoquenessing, PA where some of my family still lives. However, after my grandfather Paul Victor Boyer died, my grandmother Levon Susan (Fritz) Boyer had a falling out with Sadie and Charles. My mother was just 13 years old at the time. Gram never spoke to, or off, Sadie and Charles. I learned of them when I was in my early 20s. I knew nothing of the Ifft family until last year.

I would enjoy finding additional information on Michael and Maria Ifft.

Hello - I'm looking for some information surrounding Amelia Ifft, born in 1879 and married John C. Blinn. They lived in Beaver county, PA - and had the following children:

Hi! I just received the death certificate of Amelia Ifft, and it indicated that her father was John Ifft and her mother was Lucy Smith. Does this ring a bell with you? I haven't found any John Ifft in the census records that match with Lucy - but am hoping you have more information on him. Amelia was in Beaver County.

Hi Jan - the Amelia S. Ifft that I'm looking for was born in January of 1878 - and died in 1921. She married John C. Blinn of Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were John Ifft and Lucy Smith (as indicated by her death certificate). I assume that they would have been both born around 1845 - 1855, and both are listed as being born in Pennsylvania. Any help that you would have would be greatly appreciated!

Lester Ifft was my grandfather. If you need any information on his children please contact me at s_l_ifft@yahoo.com. He had 8 children and 1 adopted child, which each had 2+ children and half of us have children of our own. I hope it is the same Lester. I have just started researching the family, all i know is that 2 brothers come over from Germany one settled in Pa and one in Ohio. I don't have any names except his and he married Martha Black (I think). Well anyways if you can help in anyone i would really appreciate it. Lester's son (if it is the same one) Larry is my dad.
