Much of the IFFT ancestry has been traced by "jlengel@orwell.net" who may be able to answer your question. The relatives she found were also traced to PA-I believe Oil City.

Ifft Family

Hello! Today is my first visit to FamilyHistory, I have been very interested in creating a family tree of my family.
So I was searching as many names from my family that I could find. hence the reply to your message. Although, I feel somewhat awkward as to my reply. I am a descendant of John Ifft from Evans City, PA. Although, I am a "secret" descendant. Sadly, while researching my mother's family lineage, my uncle told me that I would not be able to get very far without hitting a knot in the tree. This knot turned out to be "our famliy secret". Relatives tell me that John Ifft of Evans City, PA fathered my Grandfather Earl Bowser of Butler, PA. Earl's mother, who I do not remember ever meeting (her name escapes me)moved to California leaving her son Earl to be reared by her parents. He never was given Ifft as a surname, but rather Bowser, his mother's maiden name. Even more sadly, my Grandfather never knew any of this. I am afraid I am not much help to you, but found it interesting that you were looking for the Iffts in Evans City, PA

If you are able to provide me with any additional info regarding the Ifft's it would be appreciated. My lineage is Miller,Bowser (Ifft) Bowser. I now live in Germantown, TN

I took the liberty of fowarding a copy of your request to a distant cousin who might be able to help you. She knows of several people also searching the Ifft line. She knows of several John Ifft names and one would be her great grandmother's brother. She was a great help to me in doing some of my research. I think she has information that she would like to mail to you. Please email me at WSaun53@aol.com. and I will assit you in getting in touch with her.

Good luck.

John Ifft

Kathy,

I have the following family which seems to match what you are looking for:

Johann "John" SCHNAUFFER was born 1845 in Baden-Baden, Germany, and died 1921. He married Maria "Mary" IFFT, daughter of Michael IFFT and Maria HEIL. She was born December 21, 1848 in New Sewickley Twp., Beaver Co., PA, and died June 30, 1902. Their children are:
Isabelle and Leafie Minerva.

Maria descends from Hans Ift of Sannerz, Hesse, Germany, here is the order of descendancy:
Hans Ift (-1719) wife unknown;
Caspar Ift (1684-1737) and Elisabetha Eyring (1692-1770);
Johann Georg Ift (1714-1779) and Anna Margaretha Bernges (1728-1789);
Johann Adam Ifft (1756-) and Anna Margaretha Euler (1749-1814);
Johann George Ifft (1778-1828) and Anna Barbara Pfeiffer (1777-1834)
Michael Ifft (1812-1888) and Maria Salome Heil (1810-1888)

Michael was Maria's father and immigrated through the Port of Baltimore, MD, July 01, 1834, he was naturalized September 23, 1844 in Beaver County, PA.

I hope this helps,
Kay Schaney

Kay,

Thank you so much for responding to my earlier post of last year. Shortly after that posting, I located two distant cousins that had further information on the Ifft and Schnauffer families. One of them, Carol Holeswki, received information from you on the Ifft family. If I am correct, you were living in New York at the time.

Sarah (Sadie) Schnauffer was my great-grandmother. Her son Paul Victor Boyer, b. 1907, d. 1943, was my grandfather. Carol sent to me a copy of a picture of the Schnauffer sisters, Flossie (Schott), Isabelle Elizabeth (Rosenbauer), Eva (Rice), Ida (Kniess), Sadie (Boyer), Leafie Mineiva (Funkhouser), Catherine Schnauffer (not in the picture).

Sadie (Schnauffer) Boyer and husband Charles Clarence Boyer who died March 20, 1958, lived within 8 miles of my home when I was a child. I grew up in Connoquenessing, PA where some of my family still lives. However, after my grandfather Paul Victor Boyer died, my grandmother Levon Susan (Fritz) Boyer had a falling out with Sadie and Charles. My mother was just 13 years old at the time. Gram never spoke to, or off, Sadie and Charles. I learned of them when I was in my early 20s. I knew nothing of the Ifft family until last year.

I would enjoy finding additional information on Michael and Maria Ifft.

Thank you.
