Howdy
I live in South Australia. My father was Cyril Ierston born Birmingham 1905. He had a sister who lived in Brighton UK possibly named "Trissie" which I noticed in a previous message. Does anyone know if this is the same Cyril I have seen mentioned?.

Dear Christopher,
If your father was Cyril born Birmingham,1905 and your mothers name is Agnes then we are related.
My fathers name is Philip and his father was Cyril also.
If you would like to get in touch I can fill you in with more family info.
Regards Sue.

Pleased to hear from you. Yes those details are correct. I have heard of Philip, brother of John and Brian and I guess, my half brother.
I have never met your dad as have not returned to the UK since we migrated in the 60's, but have heard good things about him both from Cyril and Agnes when they were still alive. I would be happy to correspond further with you if you wish and recommend you forward your reply directly to our e-mail address of lanch@bigpond.com.au
Cheers for now.

Hi,
I have belatedly seen your post of 2005 ! A coincidence really as I was going through some family history with my sister today and Cyril is on the chart we have !
If I am looking at the correct Cyril, he was the son of Charles Joseph Ierston born 1866( farm bailiff) married to Sarah and who was himself the 1st son of 10 children of Thomas Ierston and Elizabeth Alcock. Thomas was a coachman at Hanbury Hall Nr Droitwich ( open to the public ). After his marriage to Elizabeth they moved to Birmingham and opened a tobacconists shop and outside catering business. Their last son Bernard born 1888 was my grandfather and presumably your Dads Uncle.Thomas also changed the name from Irestone to Ierston - allegedly at the time of the Finian uprising in Ireland.
Coming back to Charles, I believe that besides Cyril he & Sarah also had Trissie, Vernon, Nellie, Veda ( who I think emigrated to Canada), Iris and Marjorie.
I hope I have got the right Cyril - as you will see any Ierstons are related because of the change of name by Thomas. We are trying to construct a family chart so if there is anything you can add about Cyril or his family that would be great!. Hope this helps.
Regards John Ierston, Chester UK
