KERNERSVILLE - Estil Denver Idol, 79, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at his home. He was born April 12, 1927, in Guilford County to the late Burley Floyd and Sara "Louie" Smith Idol. Mr. Idol was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, where he served as a Lay Leader. He also sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served on the board and various committees. Estil loved golf and coaching and playing softball. He was employed with Ingram Furniture for 19 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kerilea Idol; two sisters, Ruby Knight and Dorothy Teague; and two brothers, Buck Idol and Jack Idol. On Aug. 6, 2006, he was married 56 years to Nancy Ingram Idol, who survives, of the home. In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter, Lawana (Doug) Newell of Enid, Okla.; a son, Sammy (Janice) Idol of Kernersville; three sisters, Iris (Alex) Alley of Kernersville, Laura Musten of Colfax and Corena Lako of Kernersville; three brothers, Billy (Dot) Idol, Boots (Betty) Idol and Cricket Idol, all of Kernersville; six grandchildren, Chad, Kristie (Gary) Northen, Lauren (Kevin) Griffin and Lindsey, Leslie and Christian; three great-grandchildren, Jackson and Dillon Northen and Dane Griffin; and his mother-in-law, Stella D. Ingram. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Neill Shaw, the Rev. Patrick Snow and the Rev. Kyles Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 1, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. The family request that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or Bunker Hill UMC Handbell Choir, 1510 Bunker Hill Road, Kernersville, NC 27284.
