: A funeral service celebrating the life of Betty M. Harris, age 89, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Jim Young officiating.
Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
Betty passed away Friday, June 19, 2015 at Kendal at Granville. (Granville, Ohio)
She was born January 23, 1926 in Newark, Ohio to the late John W. and Gertie (Parker) Idle.
Betty graduated from Newark High School in 1943.
She worked for B&O Railroad in the yard office, and worked for Licking Valley Schools at Madison Elementary, and retiring as the Superintendent of Food Service in 1990.
Betty was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church where she was very active and also a member of AFSCME Union.
She volunteered with the Blood Mobile and Meals-on-Wheels.
She is survived by her children, Judith (Mike) Dettre of Fenton, MI, Cindy (Dwight) Stockdale of Newark and John (Cathy) Harris of Newark; nine grandchildren, Nicole (Jacob) McGregor, Kelly (Troy) Lapine, Jessica (Dan) Hoover, Zack (Katie) Stockdale, Kendrah (Ryan) Cunningham, Dawn (Jarrod) Harris-McClain, Ryan (Mindy) Harris, Lyndsay (Ryan) Ross and Sydney Harris; 18 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Hunter, Haley, Gwendolynn, Tate, Austin, Siarra, Achsah, Nash, Cameron, Tyson, Reese, Justis, Kerstin, Evan, Delaney, Beckham and Londyn; a brother, Don (Claire) Idle and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. "Dick" Harris and a brother, Otis Idle.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio.
