Specifically in the Fall Creek area. My grandfather is Lawrence IDA, his father is Ernst IDA, and his father is Gottlieb Ida. Ihave found out tha Gottlieb immigratred to America in 1871 laeving the port of Bremen Germany. He moved with his family to the Fall Creek area. If you or anyone you know has information that might help I would really like to hear from you. Thank You for your help!

Hi James, My faimly is from New York and New Jersey. We are Italian and our grandparents came from Colobria Italy. We have many people in the faimly with the name James, but if you are German than I'm not sure where the connection is. You may keep in touch with me and maybe we can find the connection if any. thanks!

Hi Kimmarie it was nice to hear from you! It is fun to hear from someone else with the same name. Yes my ancestors came from Germany so most likely there will be no connection. I have found that the IDA surname is not very common and have had only one or two replies to any messages I have posted on various web sites. I would be very interested in knowing more about you and your family and what it was/is like in Italy. I have not heard of anyone from Italy with the IDA surname. Although I have seen it on the FamilySearch website the Mormon church has. Hope you and your family are doing fine. Will be waiting to hear from you if you from you if you wish to write back.

Sincerely,
Jim Ida

Hi Jim..
I couldnt tell you anything about Italy because all those relatives are now gone. About out name, I heard that Ida was shortened from something else when the faimly came to America, but not very sure what it was and if for sure it was really shortened. I will ask other relatives if it was and I will get back to you on it. I know for sure we dont have any German in us and actually was shocked that the name was German at all. I have a first cousin with the same name as you and at first I even thought it was him writting to see if he had contacted more distant relatives. He is very into the whole faimly culture thing. Well it was nice for you to get back to me so quickly and hope your faimly is doing fine and yourself. Please keep in contact and good searching for faimly! KIT Kimmarie

Jim -
I just came across your post. I occasionally check the boards, but since IDA seems to be so uncommon, there's usually nothing there. I live in Schaumburg, IL. My father and his family lived in Cicero, IL. My grandparents came to the US from Poland, in the early 1900s. My grandfather (John) was the gardener for the Polish royal family - so its hard for me to get much info since those records were destroyed during the war. When he came to the US, he started a florist business in Cicero, IL. My father, Stanley, was born in Chicago in 1917. After his father died, he took over the business. Its my understanding that during WW1, when my grandparents had to flee the palace, they moved to a small town, near the German border. Since, after the 2 wars there, the border has changed several times, so I guess its possible we're talking about the same town? I don't recall the name however.
Also, about a year ago, I traded message with another Robert Ida. He lived somewhere in Michigan. He also indicated that his family was from germany, but really didn't know much more.

My e;mail address, at home, is datadude574@cs.com.

Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Bob

ps
Ida has never been shortened, from any other Polish name. In fact there is a folk story about a boy his grandfather (last names Ida) that froze to death in a cave. I really can't remember all the other details.

Hello Robert!!!!!!

It is always nice to hear from someone else with the same name. Hopefully we can determine if we are related in any way. The Robert Ida you referred to in your letter I stongly believe is my cousin, 3rd if my math is correct. He would be my father's cousin. I would be very eager to talk with you more if you would like. My email is JI31313@aol.com

I am helping my friend do his family tree.
His name is Steve.
His parents names are Herbert Aasen and Joan Yaeger.
Joan Yaeger's parents names are Esther Stiff and Raymon Yaeger.
Esther Stiff parents are a Stiff (we think a George) and Ida.
They lived in Minnesota.

Do you have any of these names in your tree.?
Melinda
