IBRAHIM IBN-AL AGHLAB (756-812). Abassid general & ruler.
Appointed govenor of al-Ifriqiya (Tunisia & eastern Algeria) about 800; established a virtually independent emirate & founded the Sunni Aghlabid dynasty, which ruled the area for over a century from its capital at Kairouan.
An energetic & cultured ruler; he established naval domination of the central Mediterranean; he also created a tradition of artistic patronage & refined court life.
