Hi Janine
Great to hear from you and thanks for your interest in the Sheffield Flood. Thanks also for your suggestion of the two cemeteries but unfortunately neither of them were open at the time of the flood.
Now for IBBOTSON - there were two victims so in case you ever spot them in your family, here are the details. The first was john Thomas IBBOTSON who was born on 13th Jan 1855 in Wadsley to parents Jonathan IBBOTSON [born 1831] and Mary MALLENDER [born 1825] and they were married in 1850. Their other children were Harry [1852], Christiana [1861], Fanny [1858], Mary [1864] and Jonathan [1867]. I have also traced another Christiana but she was born in 1848 before the marriage so I am not sure if she was from this family. Jonathan was the son of Harry [born 1787-91] and Rachael [1797-1801].
The other victim was Stephen IBBOTSON who reportedly died at the age of 20 and buried in Bradfield. He certainly does not appear in the burial records for Bradfield and not only I have been unable to trace a burial for him, I haven’t managed to trace any details to prove he even existed!! The jury is still out as to whether he really died die in the flood.
Please do let me know if you think there is a connection to your family as making contact with descendants of those who died is a special part of my research.
Hope to hear from you!
Best Regards
