My ancestors Thomas and Isabella McDonald lived in Barningham and Kirkby Ravensworth parishes in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England. Their daughter Elizabeth was chr. 9 Jun 1833, and married John Ibbetson about 1854. They had 3 children in England (Robert, Isabella, Lewis), and emigrated to the USA about 1870, and had more children (Arthur, Ellen, Maud). In the 1880 census, they were in Albany, New York, where John was a slate roofer, age 45. I'm looking for any descendants or further information. Thanks.

Do you know the name of your Isabella MacDonald's father, as I have MacDonalds in my tree that were living in Kirby Ravensworth from around 1794

Hi Maureen, Yes I do have more information on my McDonalds as well. Since you are asking about them, you probably want the names of Thomas's parents, not Isabella's. But I'll tell you both. Thomas McDonald's parents were Alexander McDonald and Margaret Wardell, married 1786 in Manfield, North Yorkshire. They moved to Kirkby Ravensworth soon after that, and had most of their children there, including Thomas. Thomas's wife Isabella was born Isabella Harland, and her parents were George Harland and Jane Steadman. Does that match with any of the information on your family?

Yes I am connected to your MacDonalds.

Alexander's wife Margaret Wardell was the sister of my great, great, great grandmother Dorothy Wardell. They were the daughters of Thomas Wardell & Mary Buckle whoa married at Manfield 6th of January 1753.

Dorothy Wardell married Henry Ainsley at Manfield in 1793. Henry Ainsley was a miller & worked mills at Conniscliffe, Haughton Le Skerne & finally at Kirby Ravensworth, where Henry died.

If you would like any copies of the info on the family please e-mail at m.adams793@ntlworld.com.
bye for now

Hi Tom, Alexander Macdonald was my GGGG Grandfather, William , one of Thomas's younger brothers was my GGG Grandfather. Do you have any more information about Alexander, I think the IGI IDS member entry is wrong for his birth. Also do you know any more of the family legend of having escaped Glencoe? I shall try dropping you an email. Ewan.
