I am researching the IBA line of my family. My Great Grandmother is Martha Elisbeth IBA who was born in Niederellenback, Preussen, Germany and came to NY with her mother and siblings in 1878. She married a Eugene SCHAEFER and had two children: Joseph and Eugene.

Her siblings were: Anna Sabine who married a George BAUMANN. Caspar who married Barbara SCHMIDT, Christina who married Frederick AMANN, Henry who married Johanna KRONIER, and Jacob who married Elisabeth DIETRICH.

The family stayed in NYC and Brooklyn.

If anyone is researching this name, I would like to exchange information.

Thanks, Dee

Hi,
By some random chance I happened upon your post, the strangest thing is my mom whom is dying of cancer just recently gave me family documents showing the name Amanu and especial IBA in Brooklynn, and Baumann , so it may just be that they are common names but they are from the 1880 time frame and very hard to locate information.... also the name Elisabeth . Feel free to contact me at any time who knows maybe we are looking up the same people? The name what I think sais Anna Santina Baumann, or Christina Santina Baumann and George Baumann are together on one document, with Christina Amanu and the documents are in German I had to translate them but the names are clear, although I am wondering now if the name is Sabine instead of Santina, it is hard to read. Hoping to compare notes. Thanks so much.

my mother (Lois Murial Lightfoot) was the daughter of Vivian Anna Baumann-Lightfoot & George Robert Lightfoot
Anna Bauman was the daughter of the Iba, I found this written on the back of a photograph of the Iba's have a bunch of them , very old. Also written is Spain and Germain, "Iba family" Mom's grandmother. When I have some time I can PDF file it to you. :-)
Also the Amanu (may have been Amann) Christina Amanu is written as a godparent on a german baptismal certificate for Elisabeth C.Baumann & the name Christina Santina Baumann is the mothers name on it.

How are you related to the Iba family?

Pleasure to meet you, hope we can help each other with research.

Great to read your reply. Can you e-mail me at lookingback45@aol.com? I'll have to dig out my notes.
My my great grandmother was one of Iba children who came from Germany in 1878. She married a Eugene Schaefer. I have a few photos of her but none of the rest of the family.

What dates and where in Germany are the papers from?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi,
I know I have pictures of Schaefer because it states so on the back of the photograph, will have to find them and scan them. I realize now that our great grandmothers were sisters, mine being Christina, yet I have documents for many others I believe the dates are 1870 around and earlier very old originals. The name Iba is very unusual and difficult to research.

Yes, the name is not a common one. About 30 years ago my aunt jotted down a list of my mother's side of the family. Years later these names were what guided me in my search. I also had an uncle who lived until 90 and he was the one who filled me in on some info on my great grandmother Iba/Schaefer. She is the Iba. I've only made contack with one of person searching that name and she has since passed.

I have an outline of a family tree put together from German church records that someone kindly gave to me, but I have not varified them. Your papers should do that. Do any of them say Shade on them?

Where have you been searching for info?

Please write when you can.

No none of them say Shade on them. I should be able to focus more on this in a week or so my mother just passed away so somewhat busy with the aftermath, many papers to go through this is how I came upon these documents. I can't wait to get the pics to you.
