Hello Elena, I have just come across your messages seeking to learn about any Ialuna's that may be related to you. I've read the messages from both Kerry Ciavola and John Ialuna. Kerry's husband Joe (sadly he died last year) was my father's first cousin. John Ialuna is my first cousin. John has written about his nonna Giuseppe Ialuna having migrated to Australia and his brother Matteo having remained in Vizzini. So, I am the Matteo branch. Matteo was married to Giuseppina Cicero, they had three children (that survived, many more died). Vicenzo was my father, he died in February, 1966 aged 35. He married my Mum, Gesualda Gurrisi and they had me Josie 50, and my sister Filomena 44. Then was a daughter Giuseppina who died some 21 years ago, she was in her mid 50's and was married to Luciano Granieri from the town of Licudia, they have two sons Paul 55 and Matthew 53. Then was Concetta who also died at the age of 42, she was married to Franco DiBlasi, they never had children. Franco still lives in Vizzini and to my knowledge has not remarried. According to my Mum, my Nonno's family was originally from Mineo. I have tried to trace other relatives but draw blank. I think that perhaps one day when I have retired from work I may travel to Sicily and do some more research. I haven't seen the Ciavola branch of the family since I was about 8 years old and neither have I seen John Ialuna since we were about 13. Although I did see his sister Gina about 12 years ago when I went and stayed at her Mums beach house for a couple of weeks. It's not much to go on, but at least you have heard from another Ialuna grandchild. My dad Vincenzo would have been about 79 had he lived, so he was just a few years older than your dad. I think it's also difficult to track our families because they were all named either Giusppe or Vincenzo or Matteo, I know my mum tells me great grandfather was Giuseppe and great-great grandfather was Matteo, so these two names could go on for generations prior. Bloody traditions. Thank goodness we have done away with all the naming after parents because of respect. I named my children Elizabeth, Laura and Mark, after no one except that I really liked those names. Anyway hope this has been of some help. Best wishes in your search. Josie Ialuna Casagranda
