My wife's greatgrandmother was a Margherite Iacono, born in the Sant'Anna area of the island of Lipari (if you know the island, near the hospital) to Domenico Iacono and Rosaria Benenati in the 1860s. She married an Alesandro Malfetti from Fojano, Arezzo, Tuscany.
They had two children in Italy Maria Elisabetta, b. Lipari, and Angelo,b. Fojano. In 1889 they came to New York from Palermo and settled on the eastside of Manhattan. A sister of Margherite came with them. Part of the family married Gemmolas and Contis and settled in the Jersey City area. A Iacono brother Vincenzo, a seaman who lost a leg in an accident, also came to New York. During WW I when his son died in the army and his wife shortly thereafter, he drowned in the East River.
