There is a story in my family...

My grandfather, Giovanni Iacobucci, came to American in 1930 from the province of Abbruzzi, where we still have a great many relatives with that surname. He came bearing a story about our origins... that we were Jews (Iacob = Jacob, ucci = son) who came to Italy from Spain when we were kicked out by Queen Isabella in the 15th century. Another story for the meaning of the name came from a "history of names" book which recounted a supposedly old story that the name meant "smaller than Jacob," meaning Esau, his younger brother, who stole his brother's inheritance, and the book said that the name Iacobucci meant "heel", because Esau was born holding onto Jacob's heel. (they were twins.) Interstingly enough there are loads of fraternal twins in our family. Also, there are lots of redheads ( I am one).
Anyone ever heard any of this stuff who can confirm it? grace@northlink.com

Grandparents were Gaetano Iacobucci DOB 6 August 1870 from Castel di Sangro, L'Aquilla and Maria Filomena Biasella DOB 7 May 1875 also from Castel di Sangro. They married in 1893 and had two children born in Italy. Assunta and Antonio were the two children. According to some records I have received from Italy her father was Angelantonio Biasella and his father was Michele. I do not have their mother's names. They never sent them to me. I have written to church in Castel di Sangro to get more info. If you have any information regarding these two names please contact me. Thanks

Hello,
Just read your message on this message board.
Filomena Biasella was my great-grandmother (?), but I do not recognize the second name.
We have not had a whole lot of contact with my Italian relatives, but I will ask my dad if he knows anything about them. He grew up in Canton, Ohio and knew all of these people when he was young. Will get back to you as soon as I know more. Paula Adkins

Dear Paula: Thank you for responding to my message regarding the above. Filomena Biasella as I mentioned was my grandmother. I found a lot of Biasella's in Canton and Cuyahoga Falls, but didn't know which ones I should contact. My grandmother, Filomena was the daughter of Angelantonio Biasella and Colomba Valentini and she was married to Gaetano Iacobucci. They were from Castel di Sangro. Please let me know if there is any relationship. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Grace

My g-g-gf was born in Castel Di Sangro:

Giustino Iacobucci, born Abt. 1777 in Castel di Sangro; died March 28, 1830 in Colle D' Anchise. He was the son of Mario Iacobucci and Veronica Trattoro. He married Christina di Petta. She was born Abt. 1779 in Colle D' Anchise.

I don't think we're related; just thought I'd share the info. If you want any more detail, E-Mail me at heathde@krlynk.com

Dear David: We have been in communication before. I think we ARE related, but I haven't found the links yet. I can't get beyond my great grandfather, Michele Iacobucci, born in Castel. I am waiting to hear from Italy at present. Will be in touch, Grace

Dear Dave: Ironically enough, today I received a letter from a family member in Italy. Believe it or not, he sent me the name of Michele Iacobucci's father--it is Domenico Iacobucci. He did not send me his mother's name. Michele Iacobucci's wife's name was Maria Catullo. Michele Iacobucci, according to this relative was born in 1837 and Domenico Iacobucci was born in 1813. I do know that Michele had at least four children, namely, Domenico, Gaetano, Nicoletta, Giuseppe, and Marianna (could be Marianina). Gaetano, Giuseppe and Nicoletta came to America. Domenico was here (so I am told) but returned to Italy and Marianna never came to America. Gaetano was married to Maria Filomena Biasella. Nicoletta was married to Enrico Flango, and Giuseppe was married to Nicoletta Sconciafurno. I don't know who Domenico or Marianna married. Grace
