Looking for information about the Rocco Iaccino (Jaccino) family of NY

I married Michael Angelo Jaccino (b. 1946,)who is the son of Guido (also known as Tom) Jaccino, who was born 10/30/1917 as Guido Iaccino. in the Bronx, NY. He was the youngest of 11 children of Rocco and Marguerite Iaccino, who immigrated separately for Italy, and met and married in NYC in the late 1800's. Rocco was from Corsenza and Marguerite was from Florence. Some of their children's names were John, George, Mary and Yic (sp?). Marguerite reportedly fell down some stairs soon after Guido was born (1917) and Rocco was forced to put most of the children in a Catholic Orphanage (probably in the Bronx). Very little else is known of the family. We are looking for anyone else who is part of this family.

Hello...
My Name is Vittoria (Iaccino) van Leur
I am the oldest child of Alberto Iaccino; born on Jan 13, 1966. My Father came from Conzensa, Italy,in the early 70's.. and his father, (my nonno) was Peitro (Peter) Iaccino, Originally- Jaccino. I do believe that he had a brother named Rocco.
He was originally down the bloodline from Spain- as I have been told since I was a small girl. My Nonnos wifes name was the same as me- Vittoria.
It would be interesting to find out anything else you may know. I know that my Auntie Maria- (on my dads side) is residing in Ontario with all her family and we have many more Uncles and Aunties still in Italy that I've never met.
Hopefully this is the same family and that I've been some help.

Hi! I'm melissa yaccino. my father is Roy Yaccino (born 1949) the son of Hugh (aka yic) and Rosie Yaccino. my dads sisters are Emmy (Emma) and Geraldine (she passed away in 2011) Our last names have clearly been changed. lol. Yic was the son of Rocco and Marguerite/Margaret. I have always been dying to find out more about my ancestry and relatives and definitely the last name because I know that Y and J are not in the Italian alphabet. oh, I forgot to mention that we have family who's last name is Jaccino. my dad told me that his grandfathers gravestone says iaccino which he just recently found out from his cousin Al Jaccino. when I read what you said about Rocco's wife falling down the stairs, I knew we were related bc my dad was telling me how he remembers how mean Rocco was growing up and that supposedly pushes his wife down the stairs. but who really know! tries to find you ladies on facebook. feel free to contact me!

Nice to meet you, Melissa. You can view my family tree (Vandewater) and follow my ex-husband's line for more information, but this is what else I know. Rocco and Margherite's youngest son was Guido, my ex's father. When Guido was about 18 months old, his mother fell down the stairs and died. I have communicated with Van Val who is the granddaughter of R & M's oldest daughter. She told me her mother kept Rocco in her home before he died and he was pretty obnoxious to be around. He was grumpy and demanding. I believe, as does Van, that they had an argument and he pushed her, but did not mean for her to fall down the stairs and die. Afterall, can you imagine any man wanting to raise 7+ kids by himself?!!! Van confirmed that Iaccino was Rocco's birth name, and when he was naturalized in about 1919, he took the Jaccino spelling. Guido's birth certificate shows Iaccino. I assume all the kid's names were changed at that time. The 1900 (or possibly 1890) Census lists them as Iaccino along with Alfreda (the first child, female) who was hit by a milk truck and killed at age 2 or 3. The 1920 Census shows him to be a widower with 5 of the kids at home with him. 2 or 3 others were in a Catholic orphanage until they were old enough to not need supervision. Guido remembers being there most of his life until he joined the Army at about 18 yrs. I have a lot of work to do to add more data and lots of pictures. Van has been asking me to post the pics I have of Rocco and M, for a long time. Keep in touch! Gretchen Vandewater (previously Jaccino).

this is really amazing! thank you for all of that! tell me...where is everyone living? other than the lady you mentioned, does your ex husband communicate with anyone else? do you know what margherite's maiden name was? also, what part of Italy were they both from?

I can't wait to tell my dad and aunt this! the only people my dad communicates with are some family from his mothers side and from thr iaccino side, George's (one of Guido and Hugh's brothers) sons Al and George jaccino (they are twins). al and george have another brother as well I believe.

I'm not a member on here so I can't see family trees. this is awesome though and very exciting. I'm 26 an have always asked my dad questions but some things he doesn't really know. very eager to learn and maybe eventually meet some people down the lin

ps when you do get pictures up, I'll have to give you my email so you can send me them!

Hi May,
I'm Colin Jaccino, the first son of Gretchen Vandewater via the Jaccino line.

Moschetti is Margherite's ( or Margherita's) maiden name. She and Rocco Iaccino married on Dec 13, 1897. Margherita claimed to come from Palena, Italy, which is in Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. Rocco, according to memory, came from Celico, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy.

The two are the biggest mystery of the family try currently, as we haven't found a clear line to trace back to Italian ancestry. Feel free to contact me - (cjaccino at gmail.com) and we can share more.

Melissa, did you get access to seeing the family trees yet? I apologize that I have not yet posted family pics. My ex loaned me the family albums a couple of months ago. I will do my best to try to scan them in the next couple of days. Where did you say your family lives? Guido's son and grandsons all live in Atlanta and his Daughter, Margaret, and her daughter, Chelsea, and two granddaughters plus one grandson live in Columbus, GA. His grandson lives in Mississippi. As far as I know, Rocco's son John and his wife, Martha are deceased but had two daughters. They lived in the Bronx, NY. The daughters may have moved. I also think a reunion would be fascinating. Probably in NY would work. There is still a lot of info to collect. Colin is getting DNA testing on a lot of family members, too. I would also LOVE to get together in Italy and do more research!

Hi Gretchen! I would love the pictures. I don't think I'd be able to see full versions on here. Maybe if I give you my email, you could send me a few. Colin and I are going back and forth between email. he gave me quite the run down of your family which is awesome! He did share that you are an occupational therapist. So am I!! I've been an OT for 2.5 years now. Graduated from Quinnipiac university in CT with my bachelor in health science studies in 2009 and then finished with my masters in OT officially in 2011. I was 23 when I started working and that was kind of scary but i love what I do. I was offered a job where I did one of my affils in 2010...it's an SNF. I do per diem home care for another local hospital. I'm dying to get into pediatrics...school based or SI but I don't do well with change. haha.

What setting are you in?

We are all in NY! My dad mom and my sister an I are in yonkers. Some of us are up north about half hour 40 min. it's a small group of us! we know more from from grandmothers side than my grandfathers side (yic)

I'm going to respond to Colin in a few. he showed me a pic of him and his father and brothers. I will share some picture with him too and tell him to show you!

Hello everyone,

Melissa has been telling me all about this thread and I decided I had to sign up and introduce myself! My name is Helena and my father is Alfred Jaccino(Iaccino, Yaccino), one of three son's descended from George Jaccino, who is Rocco's oldest son(I believe). My father was born in 1930 and is a twin! His brother is George Jr. My Uncle Bobby was born some years later. We are all in the Bronx/Yonkers area except for Uncle Bobby, who moved out to California years ago to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. I haven't seen him since I was a baby. I have one brother, Steve, who is 29 years old (I'm 26). We also have 2 half brothers and a half sister from my father's first marriage to a woman named Donna and they live in Hopewell Junction, NY. Their names are Doree, Guy and Russell and they are all in their late 30s, early 40s with children of their own. I'm trying to get more information out of my father regarding his father's side of the family and will keep you all posted. Unfortunately, it seems as though information is scarce on our end.. He wasn't even sure what part of Italy we are from and doesn't know much about his uncles and aunt's on his father's side.
