Hello all -
My cousin Jamie, mentioned that there were people looking for info on our John Jaccino & Martha Warnke (Bade) in Continental Village, NY. Its funny, several years ago, someone contacted me looking for Rocco Jaccino's naturalization papers so she could gain dual Italian & American citizenship (her name escapes me now - was it any of you?). At this time, my Aunt Hermine who had Rocco's papers passed them on to me through my Grandmother Dorothy (Hermine & Dottie were sisters and the daughters of Martha Warnke). Since then, I have held onto this paperwork hoping that someday I would know who it should go to. Maybe that day has arrived!?
John Jaccino was the second husband of Martha, her first husband, Henry Warnke, passed in his 50s from a heart condition. Martha met John Jaccino in the Bronx - something about him accidentally knocking a pizza box out of her hands, he offered to replace her ruined pizza and the rest is history. I am one of their many great grandchildren and we all grew up only knowing John Jaccino as our Great Grandfather or "Opa". He was the sweetest man, and loved us all unconditionally as his family. I have a few photos of John on my tree.
My Mother tells me that all of the Grandkids were born in his house - and that John (Opa) used to get really nervous whenever they delivered, probably because he remembered how he lost his own mother while she gave birth following the fall down the stairs. He used to insist that he was the first one to hold the newborn babies in the family, perhaps because he was the first to hold the baby that was born when his mother died. Its so sad.
From what I know of Rocco, he lived in the Bronx on 224th St with my Grandmother Martha and Opa John Jaccino. When he died, they inherited his house, in exchange for caring for him into old age, though he spent the last two years of his life at a nursing home. He is buried in St. Raymond's Cemetery, 1201 Balcom Ave., Bronx, NY. He was a railroad foreman for NYCRR. He was born on Jan 14 1871 and died Feb 3 1963 at 92 yrs of age from heart disease.
Please let me know if anyone has interest in his paperwork.
All the best,
Valerie
