Hello all -

My cousin Jamie, mentioned that there were people looking for info on our John Jaccino & Martha Warnke (Bade) in Continental Village, NY. Its funny, several years ago, someone contacted me looking for Rocco Jaccino's naturalization papers so she could gain dual Italian & American citizenship (her name escapes me now - was it any of you?). At this time, my Aunt Hermine who had Rocco's papers passed them on to me through my Grandmother Dorothy (Hermine & Dottie were sisters and the daughters of Martha Warnke). Since then, I have held onto this paperwork hoping that someday I would know who it should go to. Maybe that day has arrived!?

John Jaccino was the second husband of Martha, her first husband, Henry Warnke, passed in his 50s from a heart condition. Martha met John Jaccino in the Bronx - something about him accidentally knocking a pizza box out of her hands, he offered to replace her ruined pizza and the rest is history. I am one of their many great grandchildren and we all grew up only knowing John Jaccino as our Great Grandfather or "Opa". He was the sweetest man, and loved us all unconditionally as his family. I have a few photos of John on my tree.

My Mother tells me that all of the Grandkids were born in his house - and that John (Opa) used to get really nervous whenever they delivered, probably because he remembered how he lost his own mother while she gave birth following the fall down the stairs. He used to insist that he was the first one to hold the newborn babies in the family, perhaps because he was the first to hold the baby that was born when his mother died. Its so sad.

From what I know of Rocco, he lived in the Bronx on 224th St with my Grandmother Martha and Opa John Jaccino. When he died, they inherited his house, in exchange for caring for him into old age, though he spent the last two years of his life at a nursing home. He is buried in St. Raymond's Cemetery, 1201 Balcom Ave., Bronx, NY. He was a railroad foreman for NYCRR. He was born on Jan 14 1871 and died Feb 3 1963 at 92 yrs of age from heart disease.

Please let me know if anyone has interest in his paperwork.
All the best,
Valerie

Hello Valerie. What amazing information! For so long I wanted more knowledge on my dads side of the family but he could only remmeber what he knew. He is away now but when he returns I'll have to read him this information. We knew about Rocco being buried here in the Bronx (we live in Yonkers however) because my dads first cousin Al told us that on his grave is Iaccino. To my knowledge, no one is Iaccino, we are all Yaccino or Jaccino. So once I found this out, I googled Iaccino and that's how I found this thread and got in touch with Colin and his mother Gretchen. Colin's grandfather was the youngest of Rocco and Marguerita's kids. I'm sure him and my cousin Helena (Al's daughter) will respond soon enough. This is all so amazing! It would be great to find more people and have a reunion with everyone!

This thread is truly fascinating. I am Gretchen the dauter-in-law of the late Guido Jaccino. Martha and John were at my wedding to Michael and were the closest relatives to Guido and his wife Loree. She knew Dottie and Mimi also. Guido was called "Tom" after serving in WWll, and being the youngest, having been put in an orphanage before he was a year old, he knew very little of what went on. He told us his mother was pushed down the stairs by Rocco, but I cannot believe it was on purpose. What man would kill the woman who took care of him and 10+ kids? It may be true that they were arguing, but I seriously doubt it was deliberate and as far as I know, no charges were pressed. In the 1920 Census, he was loving as a widower with 5 of the oldest kids. The 4 younger boys were in the orphanage, but I cannot find where the 4 yr old sister, Mary was. Possibly with friends or family, or in an orphanage with other girls. Years later she is living with Rocco and a couple of the siblings in the Bronx. We got the death certificate for Margarite, and that was the first time we knew she was pregnant when she died. I believe she was not full term, unless she became pregnant within 2 months after Guido was born (10/30/191 7)..... She died 9/1918, I believe. Mimi and Dottie were about 11 and 13 when john and Martha married. It is so great to learn more about all of this. I am with Melissa, let's get a reunion going! Colin had a blast with Helena and Melissa when he visited NY in the fall of 2013. I have information and more pictures to post and I am sure you all do, too. Ciao

Valerie, I use my son Colin's account. We would be VERY interested in any documents you have about Rocco an his family. You can contact me directly at gretchen5169@gmail.com. We will definitely share any info will all the othe family members. Neither you nor I are related by blood to Rocco, but armed most decidedly in the family. I hope we can all meet one day and continue to share the info we have. Reading this entire thread helps us begin to connect. There is a family that is getting a lot of publicity because they are planning to meet at the site of the 1964 World's fair in Flushing NY next July. The hope to have many hundreds gather to meet and share. I was born and raised in NY, but have spent most of my adult life in Atlanta, where I met and married Michael Jaccino. I met Martha and John, but not Mimi or Dottie. Martha sewed my wedding dress in 1976! Hope to hear from you soon. Gretchen Vandewater (also German)

WOW, amazing information.
My name is Vanda. My great grandfather, Santo Iaccino was Rocco’s brother. The story line of Rocco’s family has truly fascinated me.…..the more I find out, the more I want to know. There are so many unanswered questions and I am happy to help everyone in this thread in any way I can.

Welcome back, Vanda. This is Gretchen, using Colin's account. I think we need to get a Facebook account or something to make this easier. I plan to re-read this thread and add what I can to the tree. Please give me any names and dates you have. Santo's birth/death/marriage, etc. who was his wife and who were your Grand parents and parents.

Valerie, if you read this, please do the same. And somewhere out there is Laura Telup and Melissa Iaccino and Helena Jaccino. (I may have messed up with the first letters). I would really like to trace the lines down. So everyone please keep the info coming! Do we know Santo and Rocco's father's name? Perhaps I can start a tree or open a Facebook acct. with him! Once we get this all sorted out, let's plan a reunion! I would really like to find more info on Rocco's daughters Mary and Anna, I think. Gretchen. Gretchen5169@gmail.com
