I am a family researcher who has been researching my family's (McConnell-Hineman-Nelson/Neilsen)genealogy for about 13 years now. As a further tool to aid me in my research, for the past 5-6 years now, I have been deeply involved in the use of DNA to discover and/or connect new branches or long ago forgotten branches of my family. I have extensively used DNA to connect branches to my McConnell ancestors out of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin.I have now branched out to the use of DNA to trace my Hineman ancestors (my g,g grandfather David McConnell, brn abt 1792/Pa. married Catherine Hineman, brn, abt 1794-5/Pa, daughter of John Hineman, br, abt 1775). Through the use of DNA (my cousins Richard and Don Hineman did a Y-67 DNA marker test via Family Tree DNA, and we have DNA matched with a "Hindman" who traces his family's arrival, via a John Hindman, from, Balleymoney, Antrim, Ireland to Charlestown (Charleston), South Carolina in 1773. A new DNA match has just arrived via FTDNA that now matches the Hineman/Hindman's to the family of a Matthew "Hyndman" who immigrated out of Northern Ireland and lived in Iowa. The close DNA matches between all three families: Hineman/Hindman and Hyndman would prove they are of the same family.
