(2nd Johannis Hyer married Antje DeHart who died June 7,1733 2 children were bore Walter and Gysbert, Johannis married again to Elizabeth Van Dyke they had 7 children Anna, Thomas, Johannes, Gerard, Aafje, Annatje, John
(3rd Gerard (garret) Hyer born Oct. 16, 1743 married Mary no record bore 6 children Peter,John,Gilbert, Joseph, Elizabeth, Edward
(4th Edward Hyer married Ann Barnes They bore
Mary, Elizabeth,John, Edward Hankson, Peter Gordon
(5th Edward Hankson Hyers Married Sarah E. Johnson who was my great great grandmother bore the children

This encompasses the family line from Monmouth County
Old Monmouth Count consisted or Ocean and Monmouth counties
Richard Stout later married to Penelope she was born in Amster Dam set sail for Us landed in Sandy Hook the crew was killed by Indians she was left for dead. She our direct descendant was the first white women in Monmouth county they were on the land which was part of the Monmouth Patent wwhich this area was part of the Massachusettes Bay CColonies. She lived in a tree for 7 days before 2 Indians ffound her nursed her back to health and became friends Stout lived to be 98 and she lived to be 110.Richard and Penelope were among the orginal 12 patentees for Monmouth County.. Fred Hyers was the husband of my Great Grand Aunt, Jessie Graham Hyers. Fred was b. OH 2-24-1859, d. San Diego, CA 1-11-1935. He was a barber in San Diego, also a councilman from 1901-05. He had a son, Homer, b. 2-24-1890 in San Diego, d. 8-30-1955 in Lemon Grove, San Diego, CA.

I am searching for a Rebecca Hyers that was born in Ohio in abt 1822. She married Michael Fogle in abt 1840-1841 in ohio. I am searching for her parents and siblings as well as a marriage date for her and Michael. I am assuming they married in Ohio since they are both born there, however since their children are all born in Indiana there's a chance they could have married there. I know of 6 children they had: Anthony, Jacob, Mary, John, Adaline and William. If there are any others I don't know about them. Their first child Anthony was born in Indiana as well as the rest. They eventually moved to kansas by 1880. If anyone can help me find her family I would really appreciate it.

I was wondering if you had any pictures. I am really interested in seeing these people. My grandmother had some pictures but not a lot of her brothers and sisters. I have not been able to work on the history in a while because my college work has been so hectic. Thanks

Caycee, Check with your Aunt Vassie Aldridge, her number is in the book under "Robert". She knows a great deal about the family including where most are buried and about the deceased brother Felon Devericks Hyers(died at 18 months).
I have a question for you. Do you know why the spelling was changed from Hyers to Hiers? Why and how did Billy get the spelling Hires? No one I have talked with knows why it was changed to Hiers. Papa (Walter) did not spell it with an "i" (I have his Social Security Card).

I have asked this same question. I was told that the name was changed to make the name sound more American. I was told that our family immigrated from Germany, and in order to shed the German tone and make the name more American, it was changed to Hiers. I could easily see how the name then could have gotten changed to Hires. Everyone wants to spell my name like that, and I have to say, no, H-i-e-r-s, just like it sounds.

There is a family reunion the first weekend after mothers day in Alma Ga. This has been going on for more than 20 years that I know of. This is the Hyers from Joseph Hiers. My husband is James Hyers, son of Lola Harris, wife of Ernest Hyers, son of Jimmy Duck Hyers. Let me know if you want any more information on this and I will send you more.

Yes I am interested in sharing information and this is the same family. My grandmother was Alberta Hyers who lived in Plattsmouth Nebraska and Butte Nebraska. Her maiden name was Alberta King. I am not very good at sending info over the internet but will be glad to mail copies of what I have. How is your husband related to the family?

I know that C. Alton Hiers who was married to C Iris Nettles had a son named Terrell Everett (I THINK) Hiers
Terry as is called married my daughter when she was 16 yoa. They had a son and shortly a sort of mini nasty divorce.
Terry signed his parental rights away and the son was adopted. He is 21 yoa now and since I do family reaearch he ask me to see what I could find. My daughter is not helpful in this.But I have traced my other two grand children back and I want him to be left with the facts while I can get them.
Please help me if you can

Do you have any dates on your James Hollis Hyers? I think you will find they lived around the Alma, Georgia
Do you have any Allied names? Maybe Jarrard, Nettles, King, Boyett, Jeffers or Riggins?

Hey. Thanks for the info. Iris is my dad's stepmother and she is still living. Alton and Iris had 4 children. Alton was married to Ella Mae Davis and they had seven sons. Ella Mae died while giving birth to my father. Are you related to this family?

I dont know all that much about my dad's family but I do know a few things. I can not remember any of Terry brothers or sisters names except for Wanda. She was the only girl that Alton had. He ended up having 10 sons and one daughter. Alton had several brothers and sisters.

All of the children were born in Bacon Co. I think. Clyde Alton Hiers was the oldest child of Walter and Cora Mae (Riggins) Hyers Walter was married before Cora Mae and had a daughter: Georgia Ann Hiers. Walter was the only son of Joseph and Cassie (Turner) Hyers. The name change occured between Walter and his children. This is all I know without looking at my research. You can email me with any question you have. I will be happy to answer them for you if i can and if i can't then i will try to find out.

My husband is of the Hyers from NJ to Spring Lake in Tazewell County, Illinois family - some of the others went on to Iowa - and to Kansas and Nebraska. This is probably the same family you are inquiring about. If you would like to share info, please e-mail me.

Thanks for replying and for the info. Yes, they were from Alma, Ga. My grandfather was Jim Hyers, married to Maude. That is all the info I have. I would like to learn as much as possible about them. Do you know where the name Hyers originated? Jim Hyers 1909-1972...Maude Hyers 1912-1980. Jack Hyers, a cousin of my father's..1925-1981. My father, James Hollis 1932-1992. Peggy, I was starting to do a family tree for my grandchildren...My maiden name is Hyers...my father...and his brothers were from lower Ga....not exactly sure...think above Waycross. My father's name was James Hollis Hyers...his father was Jim Hyers. Any information?..or any knowledge? Also, do you know what the name Hyers means? Am seeking information on C. Alton Hiers 1917-1962 was married to C Iris Nettles. He is buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Waycross, Ware Co. Georgia. The C Iris Nettles b 1936-(blank) is in the center of the large headstone and the name Corbett b. 1918 (blank) is on the right side of the stone.
Alton and Iris had several children I think. Only have name of Terry Hiers.

I know this isn't much, but it is all I have.ALL help appreciated

I don't really know why the name got changed from Hyers to Hiers. All I do know is that it changed between Papa Walter and his children. Daddy's (Billy) is Hires because when they made his birth certificate they spelled it wrong. Do you know if Aunt Vassie Mae has any old pictures of the family. I have been meaning to go see her and talk to her about the family but I just haven't done it yet.

I'm looking for some help on my Hyer line. Grandfather was Clarence Winnerton Hyer b.19 Nov 1908 d.Jan 1975. His SS Appacation says his parents are William Hyer and Mary Elizabeth Ostrander. I found no record of this at all. I have been at a Dead end for three years Monmouth County N.J.

To Gloria Davis - The Hyers I am looking for are on my mother's side of the family - her mother Elmira , an uncle Henry, her brother Pete and I can't recall her grandmother's name - Have you looked through Social security records? Sometimes they are a lot of help - I haven't really had much luck with this side of family either - but the Toms river and Belford areas are close to Freehold so maybe there is a connection.

I am also researching a James Hyer. He would have been my great grandfather from New Jersey.

James W. Hyer born in in 1856 or 1857 and died on April 11, 1898 at the age of 42. He married Adelaide L. Cooper and they had three children: Arthur Hyer (my grandfather), Irene Hyer (married ? Clarke), and George Eiffert Hyer.

James' father was William S. Hyer and William's father was Hendrick Hyer.
