was my great grandfather. His parents were John Hyde 1782-1842 Sedgley, Staffs., Eng and Elizabeth Turner 1787 Much Wenlock, Shropshire, Eng. They married 1806 in Wolverhampton, Staffs., Eng.
Thomas was the youngest of their 7 children and, I believe, the only one to emigrate. He came to Canada in 1857 but, finding slim opportunity there, he went through Detroit in Oct 1858 and settled in WI. First he farmed in Oasis, Waushara County. He enlisted in Co. D, 38th WI Infantry 4 mar 1864 and was discharged 26 Jul 1865. Married Sarah Willey (Lord) Verrill 29 Nov 1858 in Oasis (She was the widow of Eleazer Burbank Verrill and had one son, John). They had 2 daughters:
Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Mrs. W. John Shumway) 1860 and Amy Ann 1868 (Mrs. Geo. E. Oster). After the war, he maintained his farm but had an insurance agency in Stevens Point, Portage. He died 26 Oct 1905 in Stevens Point and is buried in Forest Cemetery.
I'd love to know more about his siblings: Mary 1808-1879; Joseph 1811-1865; Fanny 1814-1840; Ann 1818-?; John 1821-?; Amy 1825-?; and Thomas. Or anything connected to Thomas.
