I have that Edward Gaither Hyatt married Hannah Leatherwood. From my notes I have the following: Old Buncombe County Heritage - NC, Vol II, p 235: "Approximately 1774-6 "Edward Leatherwood and relatives Thomas Birchfield, Edward Hyatt, Reuben Walker and Aquilla Burns were neighbors in 6th Co., West Bridgewater Twp, on the south bank of Catawba eight miles above Morganton (NC) Edward ("Ned") was the son of John (b ca 1730) and Sarah "Sally" Hunt. John Leatherwood's father was also John (1/29/1685 - ?) and was the son of John and Martha Leatherwood, who sailed from Plymouth, England, around 1680 to Annapolis, MD. Another son, Samuel (b 1681), also accompanied them. In addition to Ned (b ca 1754), John and Sally Hunt Leatherwood had Sarah who married Thomas Birchfield, Hannah who married Edward Hyatt, and a daughter who married a Burns. Ned married Elizabeth Walker whose mother was full-blooded Cherokee. Reuben Walker was more than likely Elizabeth's brother."
I know that DAR has Edward Gaither wife as Hannah Parker. I do not have access to these records but if anyone can find out how/why this is listed then please let me know why. Also it is my understanding that no one is being accepted into DAR under Edward Gaither anymore.....He was tried as a loyalist in NC along with the Birchfields and Leatherwoods.
I am from the Hezekiah Hyatt line. He was a nephew of Edward Gaither and traveled with his party to North Carolina from Maryland. Lawrence Hyatt at
lchyatt@etcmail.com is from the Edward Gaither line, is very knowledgeable and has a great deal of information on it. He has been very helpful to me in solving many questions pertaining to the Hyatt lines. Let me know if you find anything differently on any of this. Happy Hunting!
