Have you had any more luck on this line? I'm curious as to if it might tie into my line, which goes back to Hyam Hyams and Priscilla (Shprints) Levy, married about 1804.

I believe these may be my great great grandparents. Their son Solomon, born c. 1844, was my great grandfather. How are you related to them?

The only Samuel Hyams I have in my ancestry died in infancy, sometime after 1875 and was the son of Alfred and Belle Hyams. I have a (possible) Solomon Hyams, born 1849, son of Jacob and Elizabeth, with 7 siblings. I am not exactly positive that he is related to me...it's a maybe. Jacob and Elizabeth were born in Poland and naturalized British citizens.

Hi there I think Solomon is my great great uncle, born 1844. His niece was Polly Mary Hyams born 1869 father was Solomon's brother Godfrey born 1849. there were 9 other siblings of Solomon. I have Samuel Simeon Hyams as their father born about c 1817 mother I think is Sarah Phillips although I am unclear on that, and have no information beyond them.

if you have any information on Samuel's parents that would be cool, or anything on his family.

Here's what I have: Samuel Hyams b 1817 Spitalfields, m. Sarah Phillips (b. 1821) 1840. 1841 census has Samuel 20, Sarah 19, Adelaide 1 and Sarah Phillips mother-in-law 30 (age sounds wrong) 1851 census has family at 5 Bull Court with Samuel 32, Sarah 31, Abigail 12, Frances 10, Solomon 8 (my great grandfather), Henry 4, Godfrey 2, Joseph 1 month. Also Sarah Phillips mother-in-law 50 and Mary Dwyer 25 servant. Hope that helps. So, Godfrey is your great grandfather?

Hi Thanks for the information, i had most of that although did not know, information about Sarah Phillips.

Godfrey was my Great Grandfather, and my grandfather was also Godfrey.

Who are the relations on Solomon's Side, i have nothing and i am beginning to try and get information on all the siblings, but as you know its a bit of a mammoth task.
Your the first person to have responded that actually is related directly. I am desperate to find out information prior to 1817.

oh by the way my name is Keith.

thanks

I think this a whole different set of Hyams than those I have...sorry. It was a fairly common name. My Samuel died in infancy in Pittsburgh. And I don't find any Polly, Sarah or Godfrey associated with my Solomon - wish I did!

Hi Keith,

I belive that makes us third cousins, then, with the common ancestor our great great grandfather Samuel. What I have about Solomon: apparently he was married twice. The first marriage was to a Sarah ? in 1865 with a daughter Kate. He was married a second time in 1893 to an Alice ?, b. 1861. The children of the second marriage: Simeon, Selina, Sarah (Sadie) my grandmother who married Samuel Levy after they both emigrated to the USA (Trenton NJ) where they had one son, Gilbert b. 1926, my father who married Bernice Etzcovitz in 1948. I (Mark) was born in 1950 and my sister Elise in 1952.

Currently I am researching the maiden names of both of Solomon's wives, especially my great grandmother Alice. The other motive is to determine if this Hyams family were Sephardic Jews. I have a cousin who has traced the Levy family back to Sevilla Spain. There is also a second Hyams cousin in Essex England who I am in touch with.

Wondering where you are and if we might communicate directly by email? Mine is mitzvahmus@aol.com and I am in California.

Mark Levy
