Hi Kenneth:

I too have been trying to find out who Joseph Hutchison's (1801-1877) ancestors are. It appears to me that he is the son of Joseph Hutchison (1784-1814, died in the War of 1812 in 1814 in Alabama) and Eve Cook Smith (1768-1811), who came from Pennsylvania. They were married in 1802 and had five children as near as I can tell: Joseph Jr, Polly, Nancy, William and John L Hutchison, all born in Greene County TN.

This was a very difficult search. If you enter "Eve Cook" you do not get Joseph Jr, just the other kids. I theorize that he might have been born out of wedlock the year before the marriage and does not show up for that reason. However, when I entered "Eve Cook Smith", Joseph Jr came up. Eve was previously married to a Jacob Smith (1757-1796) and had two children by him.

After more endless searching it looks to me as though Joseph Sr's father is one Thomas Hutchison Jr (below)

I also found James Hutchison executing a will in 1798, with Thomas Jr as a witness and (daughter?) Elizabeth as the inheritor and executor. Her mother also appears to be named Elizabeth as well.

In 1809 Thomas H is listed as signing tax papers for Joseph Jr, William and John L (sons of Joseph Sr., so we have a connection.

in 1812 Thomas is listed in the Greene County tax rolls. I also found that he had title to two pieces of property at the time.

Also, in 1814, William became guardian of Joseph Sr's children following his death.

I'm still trying to piece things together but it has not been easy. So far it looks like this...but little proof yet:

Thomas Sr - no dates/locations/spouse/children
Thomas Jr - no dates/locations/ spouse/children
Joseph Sr/Eve Cook Smith
Joseph Jr?Rachel Myers

Looking at my family tree, it appears that you are descended for James Frank Hutchison. I am descended from his brother William, who was captured at the battle of Wilson's creek in Missouri and died after being released in 1865.
