Joseph Hutchison was the founder of Hudsonville, later simply Hudson, in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Joseph changed his surname from Hutchison to Hudson and signed his will as Joseph Hutchison/Hudson. He first married Susannah Dodson in Loudoun County, Virginia. Their known children were:
1. John Hutchison (1752-1852). He married Susan Heineman. He died in Jasper County, Illinois. He had at least one son named James Hutchison.

Joseph married secondly to Hannah Hall in 1798 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Their children were:
1. Deborah Hutchison. She married David Shelby. She was born prior to Joseph's marriage to her mother, Hannah Hall.
This was proven by the will of Joseph Hutchison/Hudson which required that following Hannah's death, his estate was to be divided equally among his children begotten of Hannah. There were eight such distributions including Deborah (Hutchison) Shelby. These records are available in the Breckinridge County, Kentucky, archives.
